Late war WC-51 Latest Pickup

Post by Ghostrider5211 » Sun May 26, 2019 7:33 pm

I swear... this is the LAST DODGE I'm buying for a while...

This one came out of a scrapyard in New York. Buddy of mine saved it and held it for me. Just got it back to Ohio today. Appears to be a late-war WC-51. Serial number is covered up by a plate welded to the frame rail, as there is a plow apparatus attached to it. I'll get to cutting it off in due time. It's sitting at a friend's house in front of his shop. Priority is to get it running and moving on its own. Shouldn't be an issue; the engine is very much free to spin and she rolls very easily. Hell, with a bad front tire my buddy and I still were able to push her a couple feet back off the trailer.

Ex Dutch Army truck, can't read the data tags. I'm debating if the serial number on the data plate is right as they got the nomenclature wrong. It's a 51, not a 52.

Found some insurance papers in the glove box and a license plate from Connecticut bolted to her, so maybe there's a title floating around for this thing...

This now completes the Dodge collection and all the trucks are now within 1 and 1/2 hours of me. I'll bring them into my garage or dad's shop as we get to them. The next 10 years will be fun! Or maybe I won't get to fix them all, but the record will say that I tried.

The engine is a T-214, but the serial seems WAY too early to be in this truck. I'm just glad it's the correct type with just about all the pieces intact and in order. She is 12 volt with a lot of protective shrouding over the electrical equipment. I'm thinking either the Dutch or Americans were running a radio set in this thing...

Also got a very nice toolbox, Irwin screwdriver, VChelk wrench, two packages of NOS wiper blades, 1/2 ton 6 volt coil, and a 1944 dated Cavalier water can. A very nice haul indeed and a good visit to my buddy who is saving all this stuff.

Ghostrider- you gotta be kidding me. Someone had that WC at a scrapyard?!

Man, I'm jealous- all of those intact parts in the cab, engine bay, and bed..

When's the last time you saw intact safety belt hardware, temperature gauge, or the original carburetor? :P

Im not kidding. This truck was on the property of a scrapper, alongvwith two other WC 1/2 tons. All were rescued. Sad part is, there were many other Dodges that were on the property that had been cut up already. These were the last three. This one wasnt sitting outside; it was in a building. She has to sit outside until i get her in my garage. Ill tarp her down.

Yeah, this truck has some parts left on it that surprised me. There is a T207 engine in the bed of the truck that will go into my Command Car. It has a very interesting rebuild tag on it; its all in Greek. This truck is holding a lot of secrets.
