Front engine support removal

Post by USAFpj » Wed May 08, 2019 1:45 am

Gents- I'm away from the Dodge right now, but have a question- as you can see right below the genny, there is a torched cut out in the engine support. If you jack the motor up just about an inch in the front, can that plate mount be replaced without removing the pulley?

Yes. There is plenty of room; the motor mount is cut out for the pulley.
Nice picture too; what model?
I will have a picture like that soon, I will set the engine in my WC63.
Oh, your plug wire tube should be black.

The stuff from Tractor supply; it is very light gray. I only have one can left and the cap is gone and that is what tells the color I think. It's the gray one.

Ok that has been all I could find that was close. I think it was a rustoleum light ford gray. Tractor and implement paint. Thanks

It isn't Rusteolum. It is a different brand only carried by Tractor Supply store.

The paint in the first post is a color that is not nearly correct- but my 15yr old Son, and 65yr old Dad loved it, so I like it to! Ace hardware had it on sale, and so far, it's been a great paint. I sprayed it right over Rustoleum rusty metal primer. But to be honest, it has not been put into service yet! 8)

The Tractor Supply color is "Ford Light Grey", and it is a near perfect match for the original smoke gray(IIRC the name) Dodge used.

I couldn't get my plate off with the rubber mount still there without taking the pulley off.
To lower it down to clear the mount studs. The plate is to low to clear the pulley

Geoff- so you're saying that you raised the front of the motor, attempted to drop that mount along with the rubber mount, and it wouldn't clear the pulley?

Hmmmm- why did Dodge make that big ol' opening, but not large enough to clear that pulley? I'll have to check it out...

The hole in the support is way bigger than the pulley. I have one right here.
Now, Geoff said something about the rubber mount; you have to unbolt that first.
And obviously raise the engine.
Now, my T223 engine is on the stand, not in the truck.

Yes, I see that you would have to unbolt the rubber damper from the engine plate first

But, can you leave that rubber damper on the plate as you remove it, or do the nuts need to be removed from the underside of that damper, and the plate moved without it?

Man, if its this much trouble, I may just leave the torched one on there :?

Those studs are less than an inch long; I don't see why it won't come off if you raise the engine up 2 inches or so. It "works" in my engine on the stand; I put the parts in place and then visualize it on the frame. The hole in the mount is fairly huge. I could be missing something.....

I know it is not the same as when on the frame, but this might, or might not help. First pic shows engine lifted two inches, and the mount has to be angled forward a bit. Good luck. Let me know how it turns out.
