Wc56 transmission

Post by wc63dave » Sat Nov 17, 2018 8:57 pm

Working on the transmission. There is cover with 4 bolts on the input shaft that goes into the clutch on front of transmission. Inside this cap it has some grooves? I am putting his back on the transmission and can see it has a gasket between it and the transmission but is there something that goes on the inside where the grooves Are?

Sounds like you are refering to the Main Drive Gear Bearing Retainer, those internal grooves are cut in the opposite direction the M.D. Gear turns. Their job is to return any stray Gear Oil back toward the transmission.

Thank you for confirming that Ben. I suspected that but did not want to put the tranny back in only to have missed some sort of seal or packing.
