DODGE WC12 Seat Dimensions Needed

Post by 17thAirborne » Mon Jul 23, 2018 9:07 am

I am going to build my seat bottom for the WC12 closed cab. I have the standard brown vinyl from VPW for the back and bottom. Can someone post the following dimensions for the seat from an original please? This should help me and others to build suitable foam/wood seat springs instead of using the old rusty worn out springs. In my case, I have no springs.

DIMENSIONS:

A: Depth of seat, front to back at top of cushion
B: Depth of seat, front to back at bottom
C: Height at back
D: Height at front

Hopefully today :D

Pefect, The seat and cover are at the upholsters. I can change the numbers I used as required.

Hello Oz,

I will get you the surface measurements as accurate as I can !
Mine does not have the sewn in seam at front of bottom seat, but will get to the point of downward curvature.
It may have had a postwar cover hog tied to it.
Also keep in mind the material has overlap under the seams etc that are unseen.

So .... as accurate as I can measure : You can likely have a little wiggle room.

A: Front top center to back is approx 20 1/2 inches .

B: Depth front to back at bottom,

Well this needs two measurements.
From rear bottom corner along the side towards the front, to the starting point of
curvature of the corner is 15 inches, and when measured straight past the curve to the front it is 18 inches.
(Sort of if I put a 90 degree square on the corner)
The front curve starts at the15 inch mark, and curves around to a measurement of 18 inches back to front of bottom of seat.
I hope that makes sense !!

C: Height at back : Looks to be accurate at 6 inches, bottom to top .

D: Height at Front : 8 inches where your arrow is. further down it is 8 1/2 at center of seat.
Also at the side measurement of 15 inches, the height there is 7 inches, but gets to 8 inches as the slope of the seat
at top front rises.

I hope this helps out a little on your seat fabrication !!!
The cushion also has a natural arch with the horse hair padding and springs so that is why it measures thicker at the center point.

Feel free to call me , or email, and I can send some pics.

I also have the rear upper seat back if needed.

Best Regards,

Ray

That is super. Thanks for that.
A: I used 20" for the front to back measurement at the top
B: I used 19" for the front to back measurement at the bottom
C:I used 6" back height and
D: 8" front height. That works great for two 4" thick pieces of foam. I'm going to use a stiffer foam for the bottom and a medium to stiff foam for the top piece.

I guess I guessed correctly!!

Hello Oz,

Pretty darn good guessing !!!!
Great luck on your seat production !!!!!

Vintage Power Wagons also has the rubberized horse hair material :D :D
I may get some for my Dodge seats, and jeep seats when I get to them.

Definitely I need new brown leather covers to recover my WC springs as they have a few holes in them after all these years.
My rear upper seat back has what I believe to be original dark brown leather with a nice grain.

That's awesome. The seat covers i got are from VPW. They look pretty good. Can't wait to see how yours turn out also.
