Carter fitment

Post by USAFpj » Thu May 10, 2018 9:41 am

It seems that I have an M37 elbow, M37 air cleaner, and the Carter ETW1, but with all of them combined, will they fit into the engine bay of the WW2 Dodge 3/4T? I was under the impression that you could use these parts in lieu of the correct WW2 elbow, for fitment inside of a WC? This set up seems to stick waaaay out near the passenger fender than expected? Here's the bay of an M37.

The elbow is different. I have not tried one in a WC.

There are two or Three different configuration elbows for the Carter as used in the WC, PW and M-37. Each places the Air Cleaner in a different location.

No the elbow that's on your M37 you picture will not fit in the WC as the war time elbow for carter is more bent towards the carb.
Their are 4 different types of elbow
Civilian elbow
Zenith elbow
Carter elbow
M37 elbow

If you mixed those elbow will not fit on any carter of you mixed them.

You live and you learn!

This is what happens when you attempt to shortcut, and buy the $25 elbow vs. the correct $50 elbow

One day maybe I'll learn..

You didn't lose anything; your M37 elbow is still worth more than $25 and you learned more than that is worth by your mistake. So win, win all around.
