I hate throwing anything away, but is there a chance that this spare tire support can be repaired either through brazing or welding up this cast metal? First to figure out if it's cast IRON vs. cast STEEL. Brazing a chunk of steel to get back to it's ability to support wheel weight?
Why do these guys do this??

If you don't have the top part then I think it is a moot point whether it is iron or steel and if it is worth fixing it; they make perfect repros now.
Why did Bubba torch it off? Because it got in the way of him getting his case of beer into the truck with him.

I'm entertaining the idea of attaching (welding) a thick piece of steel to what's left, and see if that is structurally sound to hold that spare. The Repro is generally available, but would love to try and save a portion of this original one.

Ok, then check if they are steel, I have a couple but I don't know; if it is steel, then just arc weld an I or T beam to it; Might also overlap it, or use a fish plate, bolted as well; that would work even without the welds.
