I know. Heading across the pond will create a huge dent in my shop time for sure, but really looking forward to it! 8)

Worked a little more on the inner and outside wheel wells. Fairly nervous about cutting out sections of the outer wheel well. Metal is really thin there due to rust. Also had to account for the flare on the wheel well that the half-tons have where it meets the fender. Nice to get a little work in on the project:

Hole repair day. Also, had to repair a bit of a rip in the firewall where someone installed some weird steering box and column. At the same time, I marked all of the factory holes in the firewall that I need to keep and welded closed the extras:

Feels nice to get a couple of things completed for a change!

Knocked out a little blasting last week on the body. Lots of patch panels to weld in, etc..., so I like to have clean metal whilst dinking around with those tasks:

Finished welding the wheel well patch panels. Welded both on top and on the bottom inside the wheel well. Let's say it'll be pretty solid now. Also, I have been replacing the rotted out cinch nuts on the outer wheel wells where the fender will be bolted. A lot of metal bending and fabricating required at the lower quarter panels. Was pretty beat up on both sides. Starting to take shape:

A bit of grinding to smooth out the welds on the fenders:

One of the cinch nuts being replaced here. Access on the interior is a bit limited, so having to weld them in form the bottom. Will grind 'em and they won't be visible once the fenders are installed:

Managed some more rust repair today. Slowly cutting sections out and replacing. Really liking the metal shrinking and stretching tools. Pretty well wrapped up the fender repair today:

Working on repairing the beltline now. Trying to form the metal to the correct radius:

Also, I'm replacing the interior fender gussets? Not sure what they are called. Takes a bit of time to make the bends to match the radius of the fenders:

John there is a shop that is producing the belt line by the foot if you need it. Was posted on the power wagon forum a few months back

Thanks Mark. I do remember that thread. Not too bad to form the radius' I need.

Taking advantage of a cooling trend. Only like 95 degrees today. I blasted some more of the Carryall body. Still kicked my ass by the time I was done. I think I'm about at least half way done now with the blasting. Used three bags of media so far for a total of about $18. Not too bad compared to the quote of $1,500 to do the body at a local blaster. I lay a tarp out and recycle the media.:

I also finished bending all of the angled gussets for the interior fenders. This took a while, but I'm getting marginally better on the Shrinker and Streture tools:

Image

Finished up around the two rear windows in preparation of re-installing the window boxes that I made:

I'm hoping to get some of the body work done on the back sections and then put it in primer. Then I will blast the rest of the body once that is completed. Luckily the humidity has been pretty low so far this year. Right at about a 11% now.

Zeph,
Great job so far. I was sitting and thinking, which can be dangerous. I was looking at your body rotisserie and thinking of a better way to rotate the fixture. Instead of a bar,why not use a wheel. I think one could be made by adapting a 5 spoke steel boat steering wheel. They are relatively cheap at about $40. Looks like it would be easy to adapt to the mount. Well time to go get into another flight helmet project to occupy my mind.
Keep up the good work, aways a pleasure to see your progress.

Thank you Bob! On the rotisserie, I don't really use the bars other than to keep the rotating section from coming out of the bore. I don't think I would be strong enough to rotate it with just the bar unless they were about three feet long or longer. I just use my foot to rotate it now. Steering wheel might be a little too small as well.

I just went to the metal shop this evening and picked up two more 20 foot long 2" angle iron sections. I need to mount one on each side of the rotisserie ends down near the outside wheels for additional support. I've been rolling it around, but it's a bit flexible without connecting the two stands solidly together. I also need to move back the center wheel on each stand as they interfere with the body as it rotates. I can barely get a 45 degree tilt out of it now to each side. I need to shorten the center section back about 2/3's to give it some more rotation. i'm hoping that the shortened center section will still support the body and not fold inward...only one way to find out... if it works, I think it would let me lay the roof on the ground to each side. Hope it is still manageable for me to rotate. However, may need a four foot bar to rotate then!

Zeph,
I'm sure you will sort it out.It amazes me that you do all this work by yourself.
