I think this is what I used. I'll verify with the jug in the workshop ans see for sure.

Ive been pretty busy working on the CC lately and haven't had a chance to do any updated on here so here goes.

The rear of the chassis has been rubbed down and resprayed forward to just past the spring points, the previous welds on the back of the chassis and sides have been a real pain to grind down and make good, but i did it and it looks great, and also means i can put the rear bumpers back on,ive also installed the rear axle and springs.

Hi Oz,

Yes those rear bumpers might go on my living room wall they look that good..but i think the other half might complain.

It always amazes me what you can still buy still in its original packaging,I've just bought a new old stock ring gear for the fly wheel still in cosmoline..will have fun trying to get somewhere to fit that..!

She won't mind

I took my ring gear down to the machine shop and they machined the face for the clutch plate and put on the new gear for me. I did not have the torch to heat it up :?

The engine is ready to go back into the frame now, heres a picture of the engine with the sump on,had to take it off once as it was stopping the oil strainer from moving and was stuck to the side of the sump wall.

Then i had to turn the engine over to get it on the hoist.then carefully move it across to the frame..

As i had lifter the rear body up it had made the gap behind the engine very small so I've lifted the front to match now,and i will be able to work on the rest of the chassis.
Ive also had a go at panel beating the left side below the passengers door/entrance,it had been very badly bent in.its going to take quite a bit of beating to get it straight again.

I can now start to put the engine back together as well now,I'm waiting on a freeze plug for the head, not sure why i took that out but probably good to have a new one in anyway, and they are only cheap, having said that i purchased a set from VPW the other week, only to find a set i had bought a few years ago in my tool cabinet ...i had a feeling i still had a set after i sold my M37 but i couldn't find them..the set does not come with the head plug,so I've had to order that separately ,so I'm waiting for that before i spray the head.

I can try see if she notices..lol

I will do some research on the internet to see what places will do the fly wheel,i was going to leave it with the original ring gear, but i thought I've gone so far with everything else why not,it was nice to get an original as well, always worried about new manufactured rubbish .
By the way,was your Timing chain very tight once you put it on? theres no slack at all in mine !

I went back and looked at my posts and now recall there was little slack, nice and tight. I cannot recall if there is a specification in the TM. I'll see if I can find it

Hello,

You are making great progress with your Command Car !!!
Engine work looks beautiful.

For that big dent, if you have a flat piece of heavy steel and some big C clamps
you may be able to tighten them up to a point where that will straighten that dent right out.

Then treat with flat bar and hammer to complete the repair.

You are getting close :D :D :D

Best Regards,

Ray

Cheers Ray,

I gave the dent a good hammering, will have to post some better pictures ,still needs a bit of straightening, but its better.

Still a way to go,ive got a fuel tank and radiator on its way, hopefully they are good and i can put them in, would be nice to get it fuelled up and anti freeze in the new engine, then i can think of starting it up..

I have been a bit slow at putting any posts on this thread, but I've got the fuel tank and radiator over from the States, found a pin hole in the tank that need to welded up then i will seal the inside of the tank with tank sealer.
Ive done the tappets and installed the covers, put the manifolds on and repaired the heat control on the inlet.
Just got the Generator and starter back from the workshop, good as new, just need some new data plates.look really good installed.
Have just taken the fly wheel down to get it re surfaced, and they are going to install the new ring gear for me,i had a go but couldn't get it hot enough with my blow torch..
Rebuilt the top end of my Distributor using the re build kit,and put in new points / condenser and rotor arm, counter weight springs etc,the cap looks new so i will leave that. Then gave it all a good spray with the semi gloss paint, looks good a s new.
Just started to clean up the oil filter and bracket as well as the horn, then i should look at HT leads for the distributor.
Ive had a new old stock fuel pump sent over from the States, and I've got a rebuild kit coming from John at Mid west, although it looks like the package has gone to Cyprus..? will have to see whats happening there.?
Ive got a re build kit coming over for the Regulator,so i will see what comes in that, also have the Regulator adjustment tool roll with all the gauges coming as well, should be a fun job,I've got three Regulators 2 need looking at one one already serviced and good.
If i get a chance i will post some pictures later.

Hello Paul,

It has been a very long time, and I remembered your great project.
I hope all is well in England !!

I am no where near even looking at my 1/2 ton CC, but I am thinking about it at least :D :D , and have recently bought some original seat cushions for it. I also have a 1/2 ton engine, trans and running gear lined up, once I get a truck and trailer heading west :D :D
(to pick up a 3/4 ton Command Car, and a 43 GPW... well it looks like 2 road trips to Texas to get all 3 :D)

Do you have any updates on your 1/2 ton Command Car project ?

Hope you are doing well !!

Best Regards,
Ray

Hi Ray,

Thank you for the inquiry, yes all good here in the U.K. i took delivery of a 1951 Dodge M43 Ambulance and thats taking all my time so far..and that as my other half has told me is a year so far..
So my 1941 WC24 is slowly getting covered in dust..ive replace the section above the tailgate that had been cut out, not 100 percent sure its in the right place, once the body is bolted back to the chassis i can see how out of align it might be...may have to cut and weld it again, on the bright side my welding is getting better ,i think.lol.

Id be interested to see your original seats.? all i have is the springs, and im not sure they are correct ..

Cheers.

Paul.

I’ve been a bit remiss at posting on here for quite some time, the Command car is now virtually finished now but will post a bunch of pictures showing the build at different stages.
Hope you enjoy.
I beat the dent out as much as possible and had to weld the strengthening metalwork behind as it had been broken off ,I also had to replace a lot of the hat channels underneath,I didn’t realise how bad they were untill I raised the body off the chassis so I could get too them better,so the underside shown here has been primed and undercoated with stone chip, that stuff was awful to spray, got everywhere and my spray mask filters didn’t work with it ..made my head spin..

In these photos you can see I welded the section back above the tailgate ,comes in sections so I had to work out what went where, and how best to weld it in place and cut it to the correct length ,wasn’t too difficult,I had to bend the cut edges they had folded ,didn’t come out too bad for a novice welder ,also the return edge along the top was too high so I had to cut it and lower it to match .
