Any tip or trick to removing drum to hub screws?
I feel lik I sound like I don't know a screwdriver from a hammer. Got these large slotted crews in the drum face to hod them in place on the hubs on my M37. Can't get enough torque with a regular screwdriver and all my flat head bits for a socket wrench or driver are too small. What do you guys use to get these screws off? I really don't want to mess up the screws or I'm really stuck. I'll replace with new if needed, but gotta get them off first.

Use an Impact driver. Harbor freight sells them at a reasonable price. They come with bits that will probably fit your screws. Power comes from being struck by a hammer. If that does not work, throw a little heat to it and try again. Amazon and home depot have them. All for under $20..
Good luck.
Good luck.

Snap on impact driver with 1/2 drive bit that fits the slot properly. It will fill about 90 percent of the length of the slot and fit tight. If you don’t want to invest in the correct tool you will damage the slot. If they are already damaged or your not worried about the screw take a dull chisel and catch the end of the slot and spin the screw with the strike .

Failing the impact driver, typically a cold chisel on one side of the screw gets it started (cutting the screw... ) worst case take a large nut, place it against the screw head and weld inside the nut, then as it cools wrench it off...(destroys the screw... )
Hopefully the impact driver works, but the screws are available out there in use for 50+ years.

I have drilled them out with a center drill and re-tapped the threads. However, you don't need them if you decide not to use them. Your drum won't fall off.

One minor lesson learned, if you take them to get turned, you need to take the hub, and mark them to remain oriented to the position they are turned with that hub. (drums are too large for conventional machines without the hub and races to center them)
If not you will be chasing the pulsing brake forever....
I gave up on drums as Virginia had a State inspection that would require them to remove the drum each year, and discs were easier than readjusting the drums again and again after they were reinstalled in a different orientation.

Midwest Military has replacement screws. I'd weld the nut as mentioned above it have at it and replace with new screws.

Fortunately this state gave up on inspections decades ago; you still don't see cars falling apart on the roads. It was't worth the expense and hassle.
Anyway, yes, when you get the drums turned you must do it with them mounted on the hub.

Apply some Anti-Seize to the screw threads if you put them back in.

I use a torch and heat up the screws one at a time the have a larger screw driver and clamp a pair of vice grips on the screw driver shaft. twist and hit the end of the screw driver with a hammer. They sometimes pop loose and sometimes start to turn slowly. When you put them back on use grease or anti seize on the threads and the angled surfaces. The screws are not hardened and can be bought at hardware stores unless you are in someplace other than the USA.

If you use a flat head hammer or a large flat punch and hit the screw a couple of times with a hard strike it will lots of times loosen the screws attachment to the drum enough to get them out easier. It does not work every time but is worth a try.

There are screws available for this location that have a hexagonal recess for an allen key instead of the screw driver slot. Not original but definitely more user friendly.
I purchased a quantity of them and do not re use the slotted originals.
