Need to ship 5 WC Combat wheels/rims from Cal. to Tenn.

Post by thunder37 » Wed Jan 01, 2020 9:12 pm

Guys,

Anybody got any tips on shipping five 9.00x16 Denman NDT's on WWII WC dodge combat rims from 96022 (Redding, Cal.) to 37901 (Lewisburg, TN)?

Looking for someone making the trip and wouldn't making a little extra cash...or a freight company, etc.

Weight of a single 9.00x16 NDT on combat rim estimated to be 132Lbs.

I found some specs that say the size to be 35-1/4" diameter and about 10-1/4" wide.

I need to estimate best freight for a set of five and don't know best way to ship.

Is it better to ship individually, or on a pallet?

Any ideas or guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Brent

Fastenal, and they must be on a pallet and can't be over 4 feet high, as I recall; look up their 3PL rules and it will tell you the dimensions. It will cost $200; seems like that is the standard price for whatever fits onto a pallet.

Post a price update if you get one, thinking more like $450. If they are crated they will insure them.

Price is $150 from IA to NC. 4 wheels, no tires. No insurance; I don't think they can hurt them!

Yep they can, and with no insurance you are out some bucks, even with insurance they only go to $250/ They wont insure anything I take over to them unless it is in a crate, Now they are inspecting inside the crates so you cant seal them till they look. They want all oil drained, and water, totally. If its wet inside the water outlet they wont take it. I had a quote here to ship a transmission, they asked of the pan was taken off and all residual oil out. $100 charge if not on a skid that a fork lift can pick up, so no rolling 135# tires in.

-ALL fluids drained prior to shipping ($150 fee will be assessed for drainage or spillage clean up)

-No larger or heavier than originally quoted (a charge will imposed if declared dimensions don't match the dimensions provided on the rate agreement)
-Shipment must be packaged and ready to ship at the time of drop off unless other arrangements have been made.

I've shipped and received tons of stuff; no issues. Yesterday I took 4 Dodge combat wheels in, they gave me a pallet and helped band them, and they shrink wrapped them for me. I guess it depends on if your local store people are nice, or not.

And, the folks on my end will cut the bands, load my wheels in my truck and keep the pallet. I go there for a lot of nuts and bolts and they know me on sight. Each store depends on the local team how they treat this third party shipping. I'll get some hardware when I pick up these wheels from IA so they know I appreciate their service.

I usually spread my business around for just this purpose. If price were the only issue, I'd be at Harbor Freight all the time where they don't even know what's on their shelves.

Just a follow up. Shipped four WC combat wheels from IA to GA. $120 Fastenall. They called when they arrived, less than a week and I could not come to get them for a week. No problem. They loaded the pallet into our pick up truck and we un shrink wrapped the wheels at our house and got a nice pallet out of the deal to store stuff on or a Fastenall shipment going out.

Not a bad shipping option.

Guys,

I'm glad I started this thread as this Fastenal thing worked really well for me:

I got 5 fully tricked out 9.00 x 16 NDT's on Combat Split rims shipped from northern California to Middle Tennessee for $314 !!

The shipment arrived in about a week, absolutely perfect condition. They were stacked 5 high, strapped and shrink wrapped to a wood pallet, the pallet slightly bigger than the outer diameter of the tires.

The staff at Fastenal, very helpful and friendly.

I think it offers a nice option.

Thanks all!

Brent
