Engine test-run stand project

Post by JAB » Sat Oct 30, 2021 6:44 am

I bought a military PE-95 generator for the Willys-type L-134 engine (for my GPW) and scrapped the burnt out generator. I was going to make an F/L-134 engine test/run stand out of the remaining parts but decided that the shop floor space was more important to me than a test-run stand I'd use only occasionally. The price is based on my estimate of the scrap value for the radiator, cast bellhousing-adapter, hand crank, and steel frame. I can help load but I need to disassemble it to save space so it will be in pieces. In fact, it's only mocked up in the pictures. It has a battery tray, gas tank, parts drawer, two tool boxes (not pictured), gauge display panel written in French (it was made for the French Army in about 1964) and a bunch of hardware and brackets (not pictured). $150.

Free bump Cut it in half and make a smaller engine stand out of it, they work great!

Thanks Adam! That's exactly what I was originally thinking of doing, but I just don't build enough 134's to warrant an engine test stand for them. It's not that hard to pull it out of the jeep frame if the body is still off, so I figured I'd let someone else make it fit their needs. My next projects use the L6-226 so I considered leaving it full length and adapting some sort of bolt on motor mounts for the 6 cylinder engine, but again, if the body is off I can test the engine in the chassis. The PE-95 radiator and fan are impressinve by any standards so I'm sure it would cool the larger engine. Do you use yours often? Maybe I should reconsider? Thanx! I appreciate the feedback!

I also have some jack-screw casters that could go with it to help move it around the shop and then set it down so it doesn't roll away. I have several heavy items ('50's cast iron table saw, welding table, etc.) in the shop with these installed and for the occasional "move" it really simplifies things. Mounting would be up to the buyer, but the version I would use for this is the top one in the picture. I have at least four of them.
