Curious about Mitsubishi Jeep lookalike

Post by Fushigi Ojisan » Fri Jul 20, 2018 5:50 pm

New person to the "G"

Have an interest in anime/manga and to some extent "otaku culture" in general.

So I was wandering around the Internet and saw this image of a cosplaying lady taken in Japan, and that vehicle in the back caught my eye. That looks like the Mitsubishi logo between the grill and the hood and was wondering if anyone could fill me in on the history and such.

Thanks

Mitsubishi made an equivalent but better cj3b type Jeep under license. If you do a search in non US vehicles there are a few threads on them. I used to own one it was a very good economical 2.7 l diesel with comfortable seats & 4 speed transmission.

Found it as part of a group of Japanese ladies in "cosplay" with firearms. Will see if any others have MVs so I can post them.

As an aside, I staff a large anime convention...

Thanks for the welcome. Bumping with something you would never see in real life: A Type 95 Kurogane scout car made into a hot rod

(the characters are from the anime series "Girls Und Panzer" BTW)

This is the replacement for the Mitsubishi Jeep in the Japanese self defense forces....have been on the lookout for a RHD one [Japanese] for the last few years....apparently a few LHD ones have been released & sold publicly in the Philippines.

My mistake, I was thinking of the Toyota Mega Cruiser https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Mega_Cruiser

Looks like we are both right: Mitsubishi Type 73s in front, Toyota BXD10 Mega Cruiser in the back

I put together some background history and data in a short video linked below. These things were produced in various forms, civvie and military, from 1953 to 1998. The military ones began being decommissioned and auctioned off in 2014, which is how I got mine. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6CivSVYOhko
