Post by Tim Shanteler » Sat Nov 05, 2022 3:04 pm

I have 2 run flat rings for sale. These are in really nice shape, tube side still has grey primer, rim side has surface rust. No rot, stem holes are really nice. Email me for pictures.

$150 for the pair, plus UPS shipping.

I hope you sell them because I also have two solid ones for sale. For some reason, I didn't throw them away like I usually do.

I sold 3 a while back (all to the same guy). Could be man cave/ garage wall art. So here's a question I never thought of before. If you restore your jeep to 100% factory standards, I would assume the run flats would be needed. True or not? Obviously, you would have to take photos to prove that they are there. If they're not there how could it be 100%? I know most folks don't reinstall them when replacing tubes and/or tires (I know I don't). Any judges have opinions?

It could be argued that NO jeep is 100% restored, as oil, hoses, sparkplug wires, tires, paint all get changed out. Even a Barn find will have something changed from factory if it is ever started after finding it (battery)
So restoration standards and judging will always be subject to opinion of the judges in some aspects.

When I judged at the Lee Hall MVPA event (late 90's), good repop bodies were just coming out and my thoughts were it was a better vehicle with a restored original body even with small issues or bumps than a repop, even though the standard favored the repop for lack of issues (at the time)
I guy puts in hours of work and sweat VS slapping cash down and a paint job, they shouldn't be in the same class for judging in my view.

I encouraged one guy to switch to motorpool class as he'd have a superior award VS fighting the several repopped competitors for factory class.

If you restore your jeep to high grade, you will need them...

I never install them; prove they aren't in there on my jeeps! And I see guys weld all new body parts onto a firewall and call it original; complete nonsense. Until there is an MVPA rule on the percentage of reproduction parts allowed; it doesn't matter. None is 100% original. And since there are no more mint original bodies left, any restoration will include all manner of new parts. As long as they allow body work and new paint; after all, it is a representation of factory original; not "factory original". Use whatever you want or are lucky enough to find.

Tim,

Sorry your sale has been hijacked with opinions by people that are not interested in buying your bead locks. All their input should be on the Technical page not your sale.

There are purists that will want them. I recommend you add pictures or encourage a "best offer" to stimulate your sale, condition matters.

I have them on all three of my jeeps and have no problems nor issues.

One final technical note, the bead lock causes the valve stem to seat lower than if you use the flap. This matters because it pulls the valve stem down so the protector is close or snug to the wheel.

If the owner does not want to use the bead lock that is of course their choice. If your use the flap put in the rubber spacer to draw the valve stem down. Go to Ron first but if he does not have them they are made by the Long OD Line.

No one knows if you have bead locks in until they look at your valve stems.

Good luck with your sale.

Cheers,
Peter

Thanks Peter,

A number of years ago while searching Ebay I came across an auction for a NOS GPW ignition switch lever (never knew they existed). The photo showed an "F" mark on the switch which when installed would be on the inside of the dash and unviewable. I watched the auction (no intention of bidding) and it ended up selling for around $400. Some folks want everything correct, whether it's visible or not.
