GPW Scalloped Axle Shafts

Post by 17thAirborne » Sat Jul 16, 2022 5:05 am

Have these really gotten this expensive? Not my post, but $1000 for a set of T/O useable shafts seems out of whack. I was thinking about $600-$750 was more reasonable. I have not seen many posted for sale lately, so perhaps Bidenflation is hitting us also.

Are the slat-grille scalloped axles of the same values? I just pulled a set this morning from a January ‘42 dated differential. Since it’s going into my GPW and I have a set of Round GPW axles I could be persuaded to part with them if would help a purist. 😁

I just took a closer look.
I guess I need to do some cleanup on these. The long one is F-scripted. I don’t see any indication on the short one but maybe I’ll know more after it’s cleaned up.

Only difference is the F on the ford one. I still have 1 set of ford marked ones for $800. seal areas need a sleeve or repairs. Unless you are running 80 yo seals, then it wont matter.

Any round head axle can be easily made into a scallop head .
Just need some good grinding tools.

And then you have neither scalloped or standard axle. Only a ruined axle.
