Re: MB short block
Thank you for taking the time to check those. So close, but I need a January ‘45 for my CJ2A project.

Re: MB short block
My CJ2A was built in September of ‘45, but has a January 15, ‘45 buy-back block. It’s cracked under the distributor, and my plan is to stitch it, but if another Jan. 15 block came up without a crack, that would give me another option. (I do realize the chances of finding a 1/15 block are pretty slim, but I figure it’s worth asking. Though it took me a few years, I found a correctly dated block for my ‘44 GPW.)

Re: MB short block
If they have oil pans and cylinder heads you do not have short blocks, you have long blocks.

Bruce,
You are correct, one of them is a complete engine with a civilian head, the other one is missing the oil pan and front timing cover. They both have the internals in them so yes they are actually long blocks.

Hello 42cargo
I see that you have a "CJ2A was built in September of ‘45, but has a January 15, ‘45 buy-back block." I will be buying a MB engine that has the blank oval (where normally the military serial number would be) but has a Cj2a serial number above the water pump. I will try to find time to drive out and get the casting numbers and the Cj2a serial number for you. How many of the 1945 Cj2a engines had the blank (MB serial number) oval on the engine block?
