Exchange Slat Grill Body for GPW Script Body
I have a slat grill body on a Ford script chassis. Am thinking about a swap or sell in exchange for a Ford script body. Dropped by Ron's place and we were amazed at how straight and rust free it is. Any thoughts?

Nice jeep. You are new to all this so welcome aboard.
The two things I recommend that might help you are:
1. Post your GPW Chassis Number.
(There is a chance that someone may have your data plates and it tells everyone what year GPW body you are looking for).
2. Post the Body number of your Slat body - it is found on the drivers side body gusset.
(This will help the Slat guys know if you have a '41 or '42 body - it matters and they would rather have an original body when possible).
Good Luck,
Peter

Hello,
Welcome to the great G503 !!
What a great jeep you have there !!
Can you post pictures of your dash, and more close up pictures ?
I think I can see where there was a rebuild data plate at one time on the dash, and also where they drilled holes to add the first aid kit.
I have a similar slat grill jeep, that was rebuilt by Moore Equipment Company in Modesto , California in 1945.
They replaced my frame with a GPW frame as well.
You might consider finding a slat grill frame and building a slat jeep, since you have most of it there already
Then you could still build a GPW based on your frame number, and any GPW parts you have.
That way you would end up with 2 awesome jeeps !!
Best Regards,
Ray

Why? you have one that runs, dont touch it, Nice motor pool jeet. if you want to build something, find another, drive this one and take your time doing another.
So what is the engine number.

To Adam's point, evaluate your time, skills and funds. He's right, you have a nice running jeep that you can already enjoy.
Plan B would be to put on a rebuild tag like the one he referenced if it does not have one. This fully explains your jeep and all you did was add the rebuild data plate.

If your engine and frame numbers match, then by all means proceed with searching for an original Ford script body. If they do not match, then drive it as it is, enjoy it, and keep the search for a Ford body and GPW motor on the back burner. Post your frame and motor numbers and see what happens.

If it was me I would consider making it more Willys or Ford. At least the tub and frame of the same origins.
I could also understand enjoying it as is. At least change that front bumper. It would look worlds better.

Re: Exchange Slat Grill Body for GPW Script Body
Thank you all for your thoughts and comments. Apologies for not replying until now.
This appears to be a late slat grill body as the rear reflectors and angled versus level with the tail lights. I am not yet able to find the body number, but will keep searching. The frame serial number is GPW14089* and the GPW engine number is 184667.
We need to completely rewire the whole jeep. Does anyone have a thread on rewiring with body on frame?
Alan
Looks like the previous owner was planning on cutting out the dash for a glove box. Thankfully they did not complete the job.

Tool box indents, round or rectangular?
if round body number will be on drivers side body gussett, either front or side of it depending on #1 or2 body type.
Maybe its a ford body?

Re: Exchange Slat Grill Body for GPW Script Body
body number is 8831.
Frame Serial Number: GPW14089*
Engine Number: 184667 (GPW)
Based on your input the plan is to:
1. rewire everything electrical
2. overhaul the entire brake system
3. overhaul all fuel lines
4. replace all hoses
Will keep you all posted as we go and thanks again for your kind help.

Re: Exchange Slat Grill Body for GPW Script Body
I dont remember fuel can brackets and trailer plugs on slats, 8k is a pretty early tub, obviously it has been updated or modified.
Well what do you want to do with her, if you are going to change the body, do the brakes and tub wiring then.
You can do under hood wiring, and if you change the tub not much will need to be removed.
Are all the anti squeek pieces on the benders to body and body to frame and fuel tank and grill and fenders, How far do you want to go and what is the timeline?
Its summertime, drive her, save the work for winter if you get one there, unless she has wiring issues and could start a fire.

Re: Exchange Slat Grill Body for GPW Script Body
Thanks Adam and everyone for your thoughts and support. Apologies for my delayed response. Work and property have lately required my full attention. We have named our jeep WilFord. Our plan now is to simply recommission him. All new wiring, fuel and brake systems. So my thinking is to start a fresh message series as we move this along.
Best regards to all of you,
Alan

Hi Alan,
I’ve read this thread and idk where you are located, but I have 2 Ford Script tubs. They’d need work, but they’re not horrible. I’m near Chicago if you’re interested.
