PayPal

Post by HankII » Tue Sep 07, 2021 10:56 am

Apologies if this is on wrong page/forum -

Not all too familiar w PayPal.
Why is it when someone sends me $500, PayPal gives me $500. Other times they deduct a "transaction fee" ? Just sold something for $800, PayPal Liberated $23.61?
Always US sales - Anybody know why sometimes they're Grabby, Sometimes not?

If the buyer indicates the money is for goods or services then PayPal takes their cut and provides buyer's insurance. If the buyer indicates they are sending money to a friend, PayPal does not take a cut and they do not provide insurance.

Hope that helps.

That’s it exactly. If you trust the seller, send via Friends and Family. If not, have them add 4% to cover their fees.

Never use Friends and Familly.

There are fees either way, it just differentiates who pays the fee and while the fee is lowered, your protection is 0.

Ditch PayPal all together and get venmo accounts. Paypal is 20 years ago. Venmo doesn’t deduct fees and you don’t have to lie or get others to lie and it’s a much better process. Time to move forward guys. (PayPal owns venmo)

What's the down side to having buyer send check or MO like the Good Old Days?

Seems every time I list something, first question is, "Do You Take PayPal?"

Because there are 0 protections to money orders and checks, especially when buying internationally. We're not in the 1960s either ;)

Awww. Poor buyers need protection. What about the seller? Too many buyers getting buyers remorse anymore. Dont buy somerhing whithout good info and pics from a trusted person and u wont have issues.

From the net for what it’s worth.

“When sending money via “friends and family”, if the person sending the money is using a credit or debit card then the payor is charged a 2.9% fee with the option to pass that fee on to the recipient of the money. If the payor is paying from their bank account, they can send money to anyone in the US for no fee.”

Postal money orders are secure, anonymous, and you always get your money. No internet spying and the money is always there.

The post office will run a usps money order while u wait to make sure it is real. Only accept them, post office will give you cash. or western union where you get cash in hand. Then you can ship at your convenience. They are still out of date, these days who wants to stop in post office.

Hey Hank2
I noticed you have a location of Amherst Junction. Is that Amherst Junction, Wisconsin, HOME OF THE HAPPY WORMS? If you are an old time resident of Amherst Junction, you know what I am referring to.
Best wishes;

Postal MOs? Wells Fargo bank will not cash them; they are the most widely stolen and counterfeited form of payment. Best to just send a personal check.
