Re: WTB vet step
Is this some magical military issue item you are seeking?
Military never bought them, they were fabricated if needed for parade duty.
I paint a civilian fold up stool OD green, put it out and then fold it up after they enter. For years L used a wooden one, but age and weight of several individuals entering the vehicle rendered it to the garage duty.
Check True Value or Walmart for a suitable fold up "step" and paint it.

Re: WTB vet step
I remember seeing them advertised in Army Motors a couple of years ago and that is exactly what they called them. I don't know if they are still making them.
They have a hanger bracket that allows it to hang on the passenger side cut out. The early ones had a fixed step, the later ones had a hinged step so it was easier to store.
All that being said I think Winget has the quick and simple answer.
Cheers,
Peter

Re: WTB vet step
Hi All,
Yes, I make the vet step. Although they didn't exist during WW2 since the GI's simply stepped in and out of their jeeps, now, for those that remain, they find it handy to get in and out of the old war-horse. Even the Korean and Vietnam vets find it handy. Kids use it to get in and out of my jeep for a photo op to sit behind the machine gun put on a helmet and let mom or dad take a picture. However, my wife gets the credit for naming it the VET STEP.
I also make products that the GI's made for themselves during the war that were NOT government issue, such as: the Wire-Cutter, the Fender-step Pedestal Mount for the .30cal, and the Bustle Basket that hangs off the back of the Jeep for extra stowage.
Of modern interest, I also make flag holders that clamp onto the front bumper. And, I reproduce the WW2 ammo can holder for the .30cal. It hooks onto the pin on the left side of the receiver and clamps onto the barrel. An exact reproduction of the original. Any questions, send me an email. --Norm--

Re: WTB vet step
Saw one of Norm's Vet Steps on a friends jeep and realized it would be nice to have for the Vets I carry yet somewhat discreet since it appears to be a part of the jeep when painted to match so that I'm not drawing attention to someone's mobility issues.
He also sells flag holders of which I have posted a picture if anyone is intersted.

Thought I would post a few pictures of the Vet Step I purchased from Norm. Very well constructed, nice welds and they are square! Plus a few other details such as the canvas strap inserted in the hanger portion to avoid scratching the paint.
Nicely made Norm.
