Re: NOS AUTOLITE Generator GEG-5002A
The foil wrapper and Federal Stock Numbers give them away the packaging as post-WWII, 1950's, and 1959 as they are dated on the one label. This does not mean they were made after WWII- it just means they were packed in this packaging after WWII. I have found many examples of WWII parts and pieces (not just MB/GPW) that were in original WWII packaging, and were repacked like this for stock for multiple uses (not just US military use). As for the generator overhaul status, this was done by contractors, and the quality of the overhaul varied. Some of these contractors were literally hole-in-the-wall shops which bid on US Government contracts to keep their businesses going- in terms of a generator, think of a local automotive electric shop which had parts and pieces and could do the work. That meant that you might NOT see new tags, perfect paint, and would also see old wiring and connectors; if it passed a bench test and met standards of the rebuild contract, that was good enough.
IF these were in that intact packaging, they were PROBABLY NOS or overhauls. For all who doubt that NOS parts were needed in the 1950's and 1960's, you are forgetting or ignorant of the Military Assistance Program for NATO; the US assisted in stocking parts for any vehicles used by NATO, which included MB/GPW for some of these countries (remember the Greek recoilless jeeps Sarafan brought in in the 1980's, just out of service).
So my assessment is that you still cannot tell for sure if the generators are NOS or not. But they are probably excellent cores which will work right away or need minor work to be put in service. If I owned these, that is how I would describe them and list them for sale. But I think your internal engine parts (the cams, etc) probably are NOS pieces which were repackaged for later use in the 1950's and 1960's.

Re: NOS AUTOLITE Generator GEG-5002A
I'm in need of a good generator but have a question about the GEG5002A. According to jeepdraw we need a GEG 5001A, 5001D, or 5002D. Whats the difference with the one that's a 5002A?

Pulley size or v groove location I believe. GTB has a different letter, same generator, somebody verify this, I cant find the numbered listing for all these.

I believe the GEG5002A is intended for the Dodge but it's the same as the Jeep 5002D except for the pulley. Swap the pulley and tag and you have the correct unit.

Re: NOS AUTOLITE Generator GEG-5002A
Just to mix it up a bit, and throw in the fact I also have a script GPW with a 5002D (not likely original) generator, Jeepdraw says this:
From Ford documents, the Ford made generator with sealed bearings was started on June 16, '42. Prior to this date Autolite generators ( GEG-5001A and maybe GEG-5002D ) were used. NOTE - there is no data that I have seen showing the Autolite made generator GEG-5002D was ever used in a GPW but it may have been so more research needs done on this point. On the second GPW contract 20,184 non Ford made generators were used before the Ford made generators started to be used in the production of GPWs.
