1944 GPW for sale
For sale is this 1944 GPW recently rescued from an estate where it sat since the 1960's. I was reluctant to post it for sale as a whole unit because of how rough it is. I really thought it was destined to be parted out, which I am capable of doing if no-one is interested . . . but I thought I would post it complete here first if someone had an interest in it as is it sits. I am completely aware that she is pretty rough . . . Floor pans are pretty much gone, motor is stuck, transmission is locked up (but in neutral). It will be a true labor of love to bring this one back. The good however, is the frame seems solid from my rudimentary inspection, there are 3 combat rims, headlight buckets and cats eye lights look good, grill and hood look great and there are tons of the handles, brackets and bits all over that people are always looking for. I am pricing it for what I need to get out of it based on what I have in it. Sold with bill of sale only, no title, although the frame numbers are visible if someone wanted to go thru the hoops to obtain one. Located outside of Pottstown, PA, 19465 PRICE is $2500
If you don't make time to do it right, expect to make time to do it again.

I’d buy that as a whole unit for sure.
Any idea what the data plate says?

To answer some of the questions I have been getting: I see no visible cracks on the block in the usual places. No guarantees, but I can't see anything off hand . . . and YES it is matching numbers. The frame number matches the engine number.

The data plates are not legible. The pic pretty accurately shows how rusted over they are.

Hello,
I hope a G member will buy this rare jeep and restore it, not part it out.
It has made it this far, and needs a full restoration.
The parts are there, matching numbers .... outstanding !!
If someone is looking for a worthy project, this looks to be one
Good Luck to the person who buys this to save and restore !!!
Ron has new rear floors and front floor inserts available, made in USA by Midwest Military.
Also he has JMP panels as well.
Best Regards,
Ray

Score. I saw this jeep when it was listed on facebook in Gilbertsville PA for $500.
I have definitely seen projects from a worse starting point.
Too bad the yellow paint didn't protect the stamping on the data tags.

Yes but don't let the 500 price tag become gospel ... by the time I got there the seller had become accosted by the experts of the internet and I had to give much much much more in order to pry it out of his hands. .... there were many other people offering much more then his asking price verbally sight unseen that inflated the gentlemen's view of what it might be worth. I doubt the other offers would have actually paned out for him once the potential buyers actually saw the condition. We all know the game .... offer a bundle then when you get there with your trailer bicker down with a sob story and Flash some crisp dollar bills. .... but it drastically impacted my ability to get a decent price. .... believe me my price is not a slam dunk money grab for me by any means. ....

Re: 1944 GPW for sale
I would if I could. Lot's there for the money, and with matching numbers it should not be parted out. Far worse have been saved at higher cost. At least the damage isn't hidden like some of these sales. Around here that level of rust is just to be expected.

Re: 1944 GPW for sale
All:
I have received several PM's regarding selling this jeep and sending it overseas . . . I am usually VERY skeptical of this type of inquiry, as I was not born yesterday .... BUT, since the inquiries are coming from fellow G-503 members it lends a bit of legitimacy to their offers . . . I know there are many many club members abroad who are wonderful and trustworthy people and I have no problem supporting their hobby as I am sure they would help support mine . . . but noone wants to be a victim. . . . My QUESTION: Can anyone here offer any opinions, PRO or CON, regarding shipping a jeep project such as this to a foreign country? Has anyone had any SUCCESS or HORROR stories regarding working with G-members from around the world with deals like this? Forgive my naivete, I am just trying to get this project to a good home and get a win for everyone . . . please educate me.

Re: 1944 GPW for sale
Hello,
First thing , the European members are great !
They really take great care of WW2 vehicles over there to start with, and always have
WW2 History is very much alive there, and is as much their history, as it is our history !!
However, the main thing you, and they, will need to have in hand, in a legal title for the Jeep.
No exception, as their customs will require it. You are the person who can do that in Pa.
If you can get that for the jeep, there should be no export issues at all.
Get that, then get paid, and then they can arrange a shipper to ship from a US port to their location.
Good luck !!
It is a great jeep in need of saving !!
Best Regards,
Ray
