For trade: Original GPW D side, top bow P bracket for P side P bracket

Post by ccdoran » Thu Aug 27, 2020 8:17 pm

Hello all. I have a single, original GPW F-marked driver’s side top bow P bracket. I need a passenger side, original, F marked P bracket.

Side note- is there an easier way to post pics here yet? It’s such a pain!

Your post says you have a Ford P bracket to trade. Ford is easy, it has two holes in the P. They did this so the bracket can be used for either side depending on which hole gets the pin.

If you have an extra driver's side simply remove the pin, flip the bracket for the passenger side, then reinstall the pin with a small spot weld to lock it in place.

Good Luck,
Peter

Hi Peter!

Glad to hear from you! I missed seeing you and Duncan at the show that didn’t happen this year.

I think you may have your P brackets confused. I thought that the MB had the double holes and the Fords had the single. I have a consistent number of period pics of both to support this. Is there something that I am missing/forgetting? Let me know.

Thanks!
Chris

Chris,

Normally my wife is the only one that corrects me in public, you are correct. I made the logical leap that Ford was more efficient at streamlining manufacturing, I guess Henry decided it cost more to drill 2 holes, score one for the Willys guys!

So I will modify my answer, remove the pin, drill a new hole, weld up the old hole, grind and finish the welds, install the pin and weld it in place, and presto you have an original set. This is why I have a "Duncan"...HA!

We missed you as well, the fun table is not as much fun if you don't come by! Send me a PM, I have some cool and rare GPW stuff you might want. Clearing out all my Ford stuff and surplus original parts, my 3 restorations are complete (plus my Airborne trailer).

I have your GPW (and Willys ) manuals if you are interested. I'm clearing out my extras here as well.

Hope to see you at the '21 Convention, I'll be showing my '42 NoM MB. I would have shown it this year but we know that story.

Stay Safe,
Peter

Hi Peter,

Usually I have no interest in correcting someone publicly. The ONLY reason I chose to do so was to get and keep the correct information posted for others. There is no shame in being wrong...as long as you overtly praise me for being right

And I will be in touch about your parts. Your JEEP parts, silly!

Take care,
Chris

Chris,

No offense taken. When you're finished "taking it in the rear" with your buddies feel free to reach out about my JEEP parts.

I respect your magnanimous perspective.

As for admitting when I am wrong, I thought I liked you...I was wrong...HA!

With love,
Peter

Bump- I am still looking for a passenger-side P bracket. I saw the other recent post regarding a passenger side bracket, but sadly I missed my opportunity.
