For Sale 1943 GPW Sold

Post by 2/14Marine » Mon Jan 21, 2019 2:22 pm

1943 GPW DOD 4-3-1943. Serial number 106843. I bought this as a parts jeep for my restoration. I didn't realize all the numbers match and hate to part it out. Frame, Data Plate, and Replacement Engine Match. Its a replacement willys engine with GPW 106843 stamped on the water pump boss. The engine and T84 transmission are locked up and will need to be rebuilt. Body is rough with rust. The frame will need a new rear cross member. The frame also has rot by the master cylinder and by the fuel tank sump. The front frame rails look like they were chopped in front of the spring posts and channel iron welded on. It also has a F marked parts to include radiator, front seat, top of fuel filter housing. It needs a complete restoration. I'm asking $1,800 obo. Let me know if you have any question or would like additional pictures. Jeep is located in Palmer Tx (25 miles south of down town Dallas). No title. Asking $1800 or best offer.

Thanks
Javier

I’m trying not to knock your jeep too much, but I’m not sure you can say it’s a numbers matching jeep when the engine is a post war gear driven engine that’s been force matched. Granted, it may have been force matched before it was sold out of service, but we’ll never know at this point without the jeep’s maintenance service record.

James,

Yes you are correct this is not factory numbers matching GPW. It does not have the original GPW engine it left the factory with. I'm not trying to deceive anyone. I was clear in the description that it has a Willys replacement engine stamped with the same number as the frame and data plate. I'll change the title to ensure no one is confused.

This Jeep is 6 newer than mine!!!!. Mine is 106837. My data plates have been replaced and I think my dod is incorrect. They must have been on the assembly line at the same time as each other.

I always find it interesting how 2 jeeps built so close together end up so far apart.

Yes...and mine came out of the Norwegen army. Do you know if yours went to war?
If I had seen your posting earlier I would have been tempted to buy it. But transport would probably kill the idea.

I don’t think it ever left the US. Yes, I’m sure the shipping would be allot.

Well,

That is great it sold !!

Is it going to Great Britain ??

I hope someone can restore this beauty back to a good state of readiness :D :D :D !!

Just out of curiosity, I know the frame has some issues,
But .....
does this jeep have the " 3rd type " of GPW frame with the straight front frame horns,
that are c channel right to the front ends, with no tapered angle cut, where the bumper attaches ??
It does look that way from the pics !

Best Regards,

Ray

Ray,

It’s staying in the US. No they frame horns were cute in front of the front cross member and had C channel welded on.
