Re: 1945 Willy’s MB all original Runs $13k
Love this old jeep. Being in the Portland area I would consider trading this towards buildable acreage in the Washington Oregon area.

So I'm not in the market, and I'm sure someone will poo poo my comments....but that's a big ask on something that might be a little better than typical. And the absence of underbody and undercarriage pictures is pretty glaring. Considering there are enough "tells" on the pics of the inside/top of the tub and you even admit to it needing "a little hat channel work", I'm going to say that some may assume the undercarriage is pretty scary.

No poo poos here. If he gets 13 to 15 grand for this one, I am going to list mine and yours for 40 grand each. If yours is missing, you will know where it is....lt.luke wrote: ↑Thu Jul 26, 2018 10:59 amSo I'm not in the market, and I'm sure someone will poo poo my comments....but that's a big ask on something that might be a little better than typical. Re: 1945 Willy’s MB ALL MATCHING NUMBERS Runs $13k
Well considering that this is a complete jeep minus the wheels and rear seat and canopy. I would say it is pretty fair. But each his own. Can’t blame a guy for trying. Considering civilian are going for around $8k I think it is a fair asking. It runs, and is fairly solid. Can’t get good pics of undercarriage because paint and grease don’t help. But this was a desert jeep and trust me it is solid. The “hat channel” work is far less than I have witnessed on most tubs and I tried to show in the pics that the floors are 90% solid. Nothing modified, all original drive train, engine, and looks like even the glass and original data tags. Bumpers are original and frame horns are untouched and original to the jeep. Pretty easy project considering there is not a lot to replace or do.

Can you add pictures of the matching numbers? ie glovebox dataplate, engine, tub or frame plate?

Absolutely. Thought I had but guess I didn’t. I will be home in a few days. Metal tags are matching and in great shape. Engine is ww2 code and belongs to jeep with correct head. Still has traces of original OD paint.

I’m still out of town. But had this in my files. ALL data dash plates original to this jeep as well the MB frame plate. Not repro. Engine is late ww2 with non ribbed head.

I think it is a heck of a great asking price. Actually I'm surprised it has not been snatched up already. I wish back when I was looking for a WWII Jeep one this complete for this price would have been available. It appears to be an easy restoration.

Snakeriverranger,
Guess you learn something new every day. I was not aware that Willy's MB had matching numbers. I was under the impression, that matching numbers meant the frame, the dash plate and the engine were all the same numbers. I am aware that Ford's were all matching numbers, but not aware Willys could be as well.
The Ford GPW that I restored was matching numbers, the frame, the engine and the dash plate. It is currently residing at the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Quantico, VA. The jeep is put on display once each year in February to commentate the invasion of Iwo Jima, of which it was a part of. When the new Iwo Jima display is completed in about 2020 or so, it will be displayed permanently in that display.
If I am incorrect in this assumption, please forgive my ignorance, as I am always ready to learn new knowledge,
Frank

Only the glove box door tag and frame tag match. The motor serial # does not. There would be a significant spread between the two. For example my March 45 MB is 430923 and a motor in the correct range is 57XXXX-58XXXX. If the serial # of the engine and cast date (below the starter) can be provided, the likelihood of the motor being original to the jeep can be determined. Of course if it is original to the jeep that would help with the asking price.

Much appreciated. Been in this game for a long time. Numbers are matching. Pics attached. Sorry for the confusion but matching as stated above by MB standards. They are all correct. Price is set accordingly. Engine IS original and in “range” with faint MB stamping.

There is faint MB in front of engine serial. Just another note body has never been removed and bolts are original. It is a New Mexico desert jeep
