1943 Ford GPW Project For Sale

Post by iVelociraptor » Wed Sep 21, 2022 5:08 pm

For sale is a restoration project featuring all pictured parts plus numerous extras. Got started on the project had taken it apart and started to sandblast. Life happened and I could not continue working on it so I have decided to part with it. Looking for $5k. Also included are several totes of used parts and some reproduction parts, (air cleaner, tail lights, etc.). I can get pictures of the parts upon request.

Often, it's easier to knuckle down, spend a weekend to assemble what you have regardless of its restoration, (even use new bolts) then offer it up as a rolling unrestored assembly. You will ultimately make more money in the deal VS a literal "Basket Case" that the new buyer can then transport it easier and disassemble again on their end.
Just offering some lessons learned the hard way.

I guess you are in TX???? What engine and trans do you have with it? In the pile of trash tires, what are the ndt's mounted on.

Yes I am in TX, the NDTS are mounted to CJ rims as well. Comes with a CJ engine and T90 Trans.

There are three combat rims in the basket with the engine, however two have repairs on the holes where the studs go through.

Nothing more frustrating than buying a project and being told all the parts are there...only to find out that most are not there. Take the above advice and bolt everything on you've got. It willl show and sell much better and you will have a much happier buyer. Just my opinion, but the CJ engine and T-90 transmission does not help the sale. But nice to hear it up front rather than upon delivery. Next question someone may ask is was it converted to 12v or is all the electrical included still 6v.

The risk you take when you buy without going to look-see for yourself?
Probably the main reason nobody likes used car salesmen?
Didn't P.T. Barnum have something to say about that?

And still...in a small community like this hobby, we tend to trust a little more than the typical Craigs List too good to be true barn find listing. 99 percent of the time, it's all good. Then the one bad apple . . .

But, if the OP can do something to reduce the fear factor, it should help with a quicker more profitable sale. IMO, the CJ engine and the T-90 transmission makes the asking price a little "cheeky" as they say on Wheeler Dealers, my source for all my restoration knowledge. Or, lack thereof.

Look at the po's answer to using a t90 and stock crossmember, see the blocks welded to the frame, first time seeing that.

Why should a simple basket case for sale turn into a coaching session on how to get more money for parts?
