NOS Temp Gauge

Post by Chuck Lutz » Wed Feb 05, 2020 11:20 am

Before offering it for sale, I need to identify what vehicles it might have been factory installed on so please do not contact me with offers or ask me how much I want for it. I chose this forum because guys who are needing one like this might even look here FIRST.

It has the original SW stamping on the rear of the case:
442080 50 K10

The 50 meaning a 50" capillary tube and the K10 meaning October 1942.

Joel said it might be for one of the following:
M-26 Dragon Wagon
G-512
G-514
6x6 Corbitt & White

If you can confirm these or add to the list, I would appreciate it as I would like this one to go to the owner of a vehicle that it should be in.
Please e-mail me with any info you can provide if at all possible.
Thanks guys..
Chuck Lutz

Doesn't Studebaker US6 use AutoLite Temp Gauge? Chuck has a Stewart Warner.

Hi Chuck

The S-W Temp gauge with 50 inch long capillar tubing was used by several large trucks one was Diamond T i will ask my friend about this .
He has a Diamond T Ward La France and a Corbitt. S-W did supplied alot of the bigger trucks with temp gauges and other gauges My friend knows mutch more than me i will se him this weekend we will see

Joel is 100% correct. Studebaker US6 used all Autolite or Motometer gauges. Never Stewart Warner.

It would look perfect Stewart Warners were OEM on GTB You may have to coil the tubing tho. (carefully)

OK, after getting some good intel on what vehicles actually used a SW TEMP with a 50 inch capillary tube and some suggestions on others that can use this one if some extra capillary tub is coiled under the dash, I will sell this one for what others that have a capillary tube longer than the standard 24 inch used on a GPW have been asking. I want $299.00 plus shipping.

Email me if interested, do not post here if you want it or pics.

Am still trying, the M-8 and M-20 were a Ford product but the Gages were King Seeley. Post War Catalogs for the WWII Trucks have more combinations of bto work, but there were none for the GTB. My Corbitt and White are on loan which from my experience over the past ten years means they will never be returned.

I gather from Chuck's post that the original GPW capillary tube was 24 inches long?

Is that correct? I plan to restore some original temperature gauges but I did not know what the original length was.

Maybe now I know

Thanks

We are lucky to be able to find correct marked NOS GI Issue Stewart Warner Temperature Gauges 75 years after the WWII vehicle era. Installing the gage with the longer tubing is an accepted installation, just be careful that the coiled portion does not contact anything electrical.

Actually, the correct SW TEMP gauge, be it a paint can or the standard type case, is marked 24 in.
That measurement can be found if you measure it from the beginning of the capillary tube wrapping to the end of the bulb that is fitted into the head.

Uh Bill,

When read correctly you will see this isn’t a for sale post. Someone is fishing at highest prices. Thought that you have to advert with prices here
