GPW Small Mouth Gas Tank - Original

Post by 1944M8 » Sat Jun 09, 2018 6:54 pm

I'm selling a small mouth gas tank that can came out of a script GPW. It is solid, but it has had a few repairs. It needs to be cleaned and resealed. The sending unit is present, along with the original f-marked gas cap. The tank also has a small f-mark that is noted in one of the pics. Will ship or I can deliver it to the MVPA convention in Louisville. I'm selling it for $295 See link below for pics. Click on the pics for a larger view

Hmmm....did you check your email spam folder to try to find the email Mike sent before selling to #2 on the list?

You know I've been on this forum since Ron first started it and his Business... for the most part it's been a great forum with a vast amount of contributed knowledge for the entire hobby. Have sold things here and there over the years and have never had a problem or complaint. For those of you in the Armor section that know me from my Jeeps, Stuarts and Armored Cars I have had a good Rep for the entire run in selling and making parts.

But throughout all of these Forum years I've never been more disgusted than I am right now.. This entire episode about this gas tank has me ticked off.. I'm not in the habit of posting negative comments on the Forum nor in replying to answer comments made by the many self appointed arm chair Judges and arm chair experts we now have on this site but this one time I will..

So for all those who want to give their two cents about something they don't know anything about here's my reply...

I posted this tank last Saturday for a reasonable price.. had a gent make the first "I'll take it" reply a few hours later and I marked it sold to him. Stated I would bring it to the convention.

I also told other parties that inquired, the original poster had first dibbs on it and if that sale fell through then it would be offered to the 2nd, 3rd posters etc.. over the next two days I received many requests via PM, e mail and by phone for this gas tank. Had individuals offer me double what I was asking if I would just sell it to THEM.. I could have easily sold it that way but I didn't. It remained at the original asking price marked to the first poster. other Members begged me to please sell it to THEM.... Now I also had people flat out cuss me out calling me every name in the book simply because I would not sell THEM the tank..
That's the kind of crap I had to put up with this simple sales post. That's how some of the fine members of this Forum behaved over an item on a simple sales post. I actually considered running a Stuart over the gas tank mashing it flat and then posting it again for some of these fine members to see... Again.. Totally disgusted.

It's was originally posted on Saturday... On MONDAY ... again that was MONDAY...I sent the original first poster a message asking the he CONFIRM that he wanted the tank.

My message read:
"Haven't heard back from you about the small mouth gas tank other than seeing the "I'll take it" posted on the G503 Forum.. Please confirm that you want it and that you will be at the convention.. shoot me a number where I can reach you or give me a call at *** *** ****
I have 3 other members that want it but your's was the first "I'll take it" posted.
I'll be in leaving for the convention early Wed morning and need a solid confirmation by then or I'm gonna have to bump it to the next guy in line" (Make sure you self appointed Judges read that part again)

The original poster didn't send a reply until Wed evening... In that reply he wrote: "Thought I sent a email or PM." So again for all you Judges out there here it is again.. He said..."Thought I sent a email or PM." This is not to rag on the original poster.. I'm sure he had things to do and it's a hobby so life gets in the way sometimes and people forget.. Understandable.

The simple fact of the matter is I didn't get a reply to my message sent on Monday.. He replied on the Posting and via PM/phone Wed evening long after I had left for the show.
If I send a message three days in advance asking for final confirmation on an item and don't get a response all I can assume is it's someone that said they wanted an item and never followed through. If he was gone, couldn't get on the computer or whatever the reason I'm not a mind reader. If He's been a member for eons and has a stand up Rep I might not know that. Again, I'm not ragging on the original poster.. So what does one do.. just set the item aside with an open ended time limit hoping for a reply someday.. either way 10 people are Ps'd off they didn't get the tank... some to the point of being down right nasty about it.

I'm truly sorry the poster didn't get the tank and I get that he's disappointed but I feel that I did my part to the best of my ability to be fair to all that were involved.. Especially in putting up with the behavior of some of our fine members... either way half of the people were going to be Ps'd off no matter what I did.. If I'd gotton a reply this post wouldn't be here.

So for you members that want to post and pass Judgement or point in someones direction without knowing anything of the entire episode how about waiting for the facts or just keep your comments to yourself for once.

couldn't agree more, the arm chair QBs and grumpy people who didn't get it need to chill out. I know folks with a lot of great stuff who just won't bother to sell it because they don't need the drama. I'll take it a step further. Being a victim of this drama myself, I like to take a cash talks approach. if someone wants it bad enough they need to get hot on it.
