Unknown tool?
These were in a 40's era PLOMB Master tool box- lots of good stuff in it- BOG sockets, early brass tire valve caps, fine thread nuts/bolts, Walden sockets, Blue Point wrenches- a time capsule from the 40s through the 50's, etc. I ran across a couple of unknowns that I may post here. These remind me of a type of 'dent removal' tool, but I've never seen them before. Some threads are larger than others, appear to be struck on top like a punch, and each one is cut at an angle on the sides like some type of wedge. Any ideas?

They might be replaceable/changeable end for a punch. I have punches for my gun stuff and have brass and nylon and the like I can change out depending on application. Not sure on the ones that are ground a bit? Maybe it is so a better purchase can be gotten to screw and unscrew them?

Well it is difficult to judge the actual size of these bolts when looking just at the picture. How ever they are a dead ringer for the tapered bolt used to secure the king pins in I beam front truck axles.

Roger, it's interesting that you bring that up, as the image you provide shows (2) washers with a rounded open top. Two of those were in the tool box as well...

Re: Unknown tool?
Well USAFpj. They certainly look like front axle king pin bolts as i have installed many of them. However as a young boy i worked on dozens and dozens of bicycles and remember the crank pins looking like that also. In looking at the photo of your pins it looks like they might have chrome plating in places. Its hard to tell as there is rust and corrosion on the pins also. If you look at them in person and see that they have chrome plating, then i would say there is a chance that they are from a bicycle after all, as most of the pins on bikes were of a shiny metal.
