c. 1949-1952 Army Fingerprint Dusting Kit

Post by Wingnutt » Sat May 28, 2022 5:34 am

I found this vintage detective's dusting kit yesterday at the flea market.

Obviously military. Roll-up is postwar duck and construction with nomenclature style marking. The Faurot name is famous in US forensics/criminology history. In 1906, as a young detective in NYC, the eventual founder of the company (1949) was sent to Scotland Yard to learn the nascent science of fingerprinting and came home and introduced it to NYC, from where it quickly spread across the country. Tweezers are not marked. Scissors are Rex. Magnifying glass is Swift & Anderson, which changed its name to Swift Optical in 1953. The pouch and the General Hardware rule both bear stock numbers in the "wartime" (actually, 1934-1952) era Federal Stock Number format.

I'm thinking MP Criminal Investigations Division (CID). But I don't have any references and I am coming up nil in google-fu. I think TM 10-632 would help, but I don't have that and can't find it online.

Anybody with ANY knowledge or references, please post.

Awesome! Thanks, Robin. Sorry for the delayed reply. I don't log on here as often as I used to.
