What you have is a M11 PORTABLE DECONTAMINATING APPARATUS "Decon unit". The M11 decon unit would normally be installed at the unit level. I don't think this would have been installed at the factory. I recall seeing the M11 mounted behind the front seats. If you look it up on You Tub you will find it.
Best of luck.

Just an FYI, it's nothing more than a Soda Bottle squirting soapy water (Well a strong Chlorine Bleach mix DS2) by means of a Nitrogen cartridge.
If rinsed out and a suitable cartridge inserted (BB guns sometimes use CO2 cartridges as well as Soda Bottles that would work :) ) you could have a nice squirt gun.
Sometimes they were mounted behind the drivers seat as well, and in the passenger foot well. It depended on the units SOP, sometimes they were issued with a bracket that held a spare cartridge, and then returned to the unit NBC storage room for accountability when you returned back to the motorpool, having never been mounted.

The attached photo shows a fender mounted M11 decon apparatus.

The mount is the type that has the additional nitrogen cartridge attached. All of the vehicles in our FA Battalion had decon kits installed in the 1970's and 80's.

The solution was called STB which was "Super Tropical Bleach" which would de-slime any surfaces you would normally contact while operating a contaminated vehicle. It was a short term fix and you would need to do a complete decontamination to continue using the truck.

Never a good idea to hang things outside the body lines.
1) It changes shipping dimensions if having to take things off for a shipment(military)
2) Things get loose and fall off along the trail
3) Things get very dirty from wheel mud, road dirt, making them useless in operation.
4) Things get knocked off by brush, trees, doorways, other vehicles.

So I doubt this was an "authorized" place to place the decontaminator, someone may have done it on their jeep, but it's not very smart.
