Thanks Rob

Both have the same opening sizes. 3/4” x 7/8”. Different manufacturers used variations on the ISNs (Industry Standard Numbers).

1731-A is a model number that embeds the ISN (731-A) inside of it. Same is true of 1028-S, for example. The "28-S" is the ISN, the first two numbers are just filling out the 1000 or 1xxx series format of the model numbering system. There are 3731-A wrenches - and to extend the examples I've already used, 3028-S wrenches, as well. Some OEM's used those different prefixes to indicate steel composition, where a 1723 would be a 3/8 x 7/16 DOE engineers wrench made of alloy steel, but a 723 would be a 3/8 x 7/16 DOE engineers wrench made of carbon steel. Others used the prefix to distinguish types of wrenches (engineers, vs tappet, vs electrical) with the same openings.
