Re: My 2021 old tool finds.
This chrome plated C marked Plomb 1/4” drive ratchet arrived in the mail yesterday assembled backwards. Since all the parts were included, it was a simple matter to disassemble and reassemble it correctly while at the same time adding a little 3 in 1 oil for smoother operation.

Steve,
I think they are. My house is getting painted so my garage is temporary off limits. I’ll measure them when I get a chance.

I am a little curious when 9" became the more "standard" size to use. They still have the 8" but nobody uses them.

I was finally able to measure the Red Devil lineman’s pliers. They are 8”. Do you have interest in them?

No, I saw the 1950 date and am curious about when the 9" lineman pliers were introduced. That extra inch for leverage is very noticeable. I started in electric in 1978 and everyone used 9" pliers. My first pair were made by Diamalloy and I never could get them to loosen up so I started using Klien's and never bought anything else. I do have one pair of 8" Kliens but weird even grabbing them to hold.

Actually, 1950 is the part number. I suspect that they were made much earlier than that, probably before 1925. I have several of the Klein lineman’s pliers and they are very nice.

I'm a bit late in the day but congratulations Don on finding that 41-S-1228 5 1/2" Bridgeport screwdriver! I still reckon that it is the rarest of the GMTK screwdrivers. I would even go to say that it is just about the rarest tool in the whole box! My Stanley example is acceptable when you include the specification allowance but it's not quite the real McCoy!

I agree, Cliff. My garage sale bag has a tape measure in it and I check the blade length on any likely looking screwdriver I see at sales. Very rarely are they the correct 5-1/2”.

Re: My 2021 old tool finds.
We found a wartime 3/4” drive S-K extension at an estate sale on Saturday. I don’t have many wartime 3/4” S-K tools and was unaware that the 3/4” drive tools have two retaining balls on the drive end opposite one another. I compared them to some 3/4” drive Chrome Alloy tools (made by S-K) and they had the two retaining balls as well.
I received some Plomb 1/4” drive tools from an eBay seller to help fill out some sets and some Plomb screwdrivers in a tool trade.

Re: My 2021 old tool finds.
We found a listing for an estate sale this morning featuring tools so we checked it out. There was quite a large selection and we came home with some good wartime tools. The ratchet is a Patent Pending wartime 1/2” drive S-K. The longnoses are 7” Crescent. The DBE wrenches are a Plomb and two early P&C, one marked N85. The combo wrench is a log C Craftsman.
