Matt,
The ammo can paint arrived so I sprayed a little Plomb box to do some comparisons. I was a little disappointed in how olive the paint was. Maybe I should try a different color.

Hmm. It is definitely a lot lighter and more olive than the boxes you have put it beside. I have a period GMTK type box from Hamilton (not necessarily military) that the color is a pretty good match for. Also I found it to be pretty comparable to some early 1-quart cans for oil. It also was more similar to the original paint on a round marmite can I have. The mermite was repainted later with an OD closer to your tool box and ammo can there. So I suspect the ammo can paint from TM9 might be as you said up thread more suitable to early war or even pre-war items. When I'm home I'll try and bring up photos of what I'm talking about. Meanwhile here's a can of grease from an ebay ad.

I was given this stuff last week. It’s a good start to my tool kit and spare parts.

Those are a lot of good additions. Just a reminder, the FSN numbered Irwin screwdrivers have been demonstrated to be Korean War era.
This obscure plain steel S-K 21/32” socket arrived today as part of a trade with another collector. It must have been made early in the war because it was discontinued by 1943. It will be added to this wartime S-K 1/2” drive set.

I received a wartime Plomb 3/4” universal socket from eBay yesterday and added it to the 3/8” drive wartime set.

For those who may be interested, I bought a can of “Signal Corps Green, Type One” paint from Midwest Military and resprayed my little Plomb box. This color is very close to the color of my 1939 Plomb 3/8” drive set box and is much closer to the color of my GMTK toolbox. The color looks different in different lighting, of course.

The paint looks really good Don as do your latest finds which never cease to amaze me.
I will try and get the photos done today regarding my wants on the 1/4" set.

Thanks, John. It's likely that I will be able to help with the Duro 1/4" drive pieces.
My early tool finds at estate sales were sparse on Friday. I found a tiny Blue Point and two Herbrand ignition wrenches at an estate sale in Sonoma. I added the Blue Point wrench to it's relatives in the NAF box. I'm now up to three Herbrand ignition wrenches. At this rate I should be able to complete the set by 2030.

I went to two garage sales and an estate sale this morning. Even though the Gem oilers was smashed beyond repair, the 4” spout was perfect. The Plomb deep socket was part of a trade with another collector. The DBE wrenches are Barcalo and are postwar. I checked and the Utica round point pliers are prewar, unfortunately. From left to right the sockets are D-I, Craftsman BE, New Britain, Duro, two matching Plomb WF and a 1945 Snap-on Ferret socket.
