Re: Craftsman Deluxe Toolbox, a new home for the BE tools
I had a good poke about and I only have one 3/8" wartime Craftsman universal joint which is in my Canadian Marked set so unfortunately i cannot let that go.
No end of Plomb 3/8" universal drive though ......
I recently found a set of V series postwar sockets and attachments.

Re: Craftsman Deluxe Toolbox, a new home for the BE tools
Thanks for checking. That is only the second BE-marked 3/8" Universal I've seen an image of, so they do not seem to be common. I wondered if they were weak or poorly made, something like that, but the matching swivel sockets are relatively common and I found the New Britain equivalents easily enough, so it won't be that.
It's a puzzle, but I'll keep looking. If you run across a few BE marked ones, 3/8" or 1/2", I'm in the market.

I’m making progress on refinishing the rough BE larger 1/4” socket set box. I will still have to find some very dark blue paint for a top coat.

Looks good. I wish someone did proper water-slide decals for these things, the vinyl graphics you can get for some manufacturers don't really look right.

I have these coming from Jimenginedecals. The upper ones are 1” long so I’ll see how they look. The other shots are of the interior.

Let me know how good they are please, Don.
I bought some SK ones but they were peel and stick vinyl, didn't look right at all. If Jim does real decals I have an order for him ...

The decals Jimenginedecals sell are actually stickers as well. There are very few people actually dealing with genuine water transfers that I know of.

Misterbill and I sent some pictures of original S-K transfers with measurements to Jim and he redid his stickers to at least be the correct sizes. Below are some examples. They don’t look exactly like the originals but I think they look better than a freshly repainted box with no decals or stickers at all.

Hmm, I think needs to investigate doing actual decals, I know it can be done.
The SK stickers I have look fine, but they are very obviously stickers and I'd rather have a faded or missing original decal than a vinyl copy.

Re: Craftsman Deluxe Toolbox, a new home for the BE tools
I always prefer to keep original decals intact, it at all possible. I only use the stickers on refinished boxes or boxes where the decal is totally missing. If I found a reliable source for water transfers I would use those instead but I’m not really willing to take on the project of making them myself.

The finish on your midget Craftsman box looks great! You're getting better at applying that wrinkle paint.
Good luck on finding a suitable color for the finish.

Re: Craftsman Deluxe Toolbox, a new home for the BE tools
Since we were speaking of preserving the original decals, I found this partial BE set on eBay and decided to try to redo the interior while saving the decal. I’m pretty happy with how it came out. The exterior needs sanding down and I will let the interior finish drying overnight and paint the outside tomorrow.

Re: Craftsman Deluxe Toolbox, a new home for the BE tools
I noticed on YouTube some tutorials about making decals using special transparent or white paper, and I found a high quality graphic of theCraftsman decal too.
I can't add the full 600dpi file here as it is too big

Ah, OK, didn't register that. I may try decal paper, not sure.
