With the arrival yesterday of a couple of pieces from a Craftsman collector, I completed this New Britain sourced 1/4” drive Circle H socket set. It came with the original crossbar. With the Heritage label on the clamshell box, it was made between ‘45 and ‘48. I don’t really collect Craftsman but I’ll make exceptions for the early 1/4” drive tools.

That's very nice Don, it's the '45-up timing that allows me to stick to the earlier BE stuff and eases the strain on my wallet :D

I've seen loads of the smaller ratchets with both open and enclosed sides, most of the BE ones look to be closed, but the Catalogue does show open-sided ratchets in the same time frame - economy model maybe?

Around here the Circle H and BE tools sell for around the same prices. Here is my similar BE set.

Nice - that is a BE 1/4" ratchet with open sides - all the ones I see here are the enclosed side version.

Here is a Craftsman BE set that you don’t see very often.

Did it come complete Don, or did you have to add bits? I seldom see anything complete here, my 1/4" BE set was very much the exception.

Here is that one. I’m not sure why they were making two different 1/4” BE ratchets. The New Britain made Husky is similar but not an exact match. My wife found the open set with all the sockets at an estate sale a while back. I had to add the breaker bar and crossbar.

I assumed the open-sided one was cheaper to produce. The illustration of the Deluxe set shows an open 1/4" I remember.

I seldom see anything here except the auction site. The occasional sale may have a couple of mismatched sockets or wrenches but that's usually it.

The DeLuxe box is still filling up, courtesy of the well known auction site, since nothing else is moving here:

Underline script hacksaw, first one I've seen for ages.

Part BE 3/8" set in original box, bought here in the UK. It wasn't complete but it did fill some gaps in my existing 3/8" list, and the box and contents are in excellent condition. As a bonus it had a full set of 3/8" BE swivel sockets, all seven of them, which wouldn't have been in the original De Luxe set.

Looks like I'll be filling gaps buying one socket at a time from US. Socket prices are reasonable, shipping programme - not so much :o

You might like to see my 1/4” drive BE set. I’ve been adding pieces to match the 1942 catalog. I recently bought the 3/8” socket. The missing extension is on the way. The spinner is unmarked but looks the part.

That's nice Don.

There is a lot of Craftsman stuff around, but not a lot of it is BE.

You may remember from up thread that all this started with a really good deal on a 1/4" BE set, and the 3/8" BE set wasn't ridiculously expensive either.

I'd rather keep looking for the odd missing part than pay a stupid amount just for postage of a socket that was a reasonable price. I'm not a big fan of this Global Shipping Program ... :x

Another auction purchase. Six underline DOE, 3/8" to 1" including the clip with some of the original transfer on it. Duly added to the box

Some nice additions to the C-man Deluxe box, Gordon.
Share a updated picture of the box and contents if you get a chance. I'd like to see how it's filling up.

I'll try to get round to it Jason. It's getting to be a bit like the Type 2 cases in that will soon be too heavy to carry.

Gordon, there is another box on the auction site here in the U.S. I'm trying hard to stop looking at it!
