Re: BARCALOS--POST YOURS HERE
After doing some checking, I certainly don’t think that you are far off. I would say maybe between ‘60 and ‘63. By 1960 it seems like Barcalo was a company winding down and outsourcing many of their products that had previously been made in house. They obviously weren’t investing in new tooling. It seems like after the sale to Crescent Niagara what goods were sold were a mix of leftover Barcalo inventory and new products made by Crescent with part numbers. Even though Barcalo didn’t put part numbers on the tools themselves, there were always part numbers in the catalogs. In the page of the 1960 catalog sent to me by Tin Medic in 2017, at the very top of the picture you can see the part number of your adjustable wrench, even though the image is that of a Proto/Penens adjustable. I think the wrenches in the style of yours were made by Crescent for contract production. The only one of that style in my possession is one made for Montgomery Wards and stamped Powr-Kraft. I couldn’t find any wrenches stamped Crescent with the squared off hanging hole and closed off throat.

Re: BARCALOS--POST YOURS HERE
Wingnutt found one of these recently and I realized that I didn’t have any in the Barcalo shrine. I found a listing on eBay for these four.

Re: BARCALOS--POST YOURS HERE
There seems to be some guy on the west coast with a lot of Barcalo items ranging from old Barcalo displays to the 7 in 1 tool. Then there is another one of the Jones Boys in England with a large Barcalo collection. But its the east Tennessee Jones Boy that just took Barcalo collecting to the next level.
The Barcalounger chair was introduced by the Barcalo Manufacturing Co. and eventually became the Barcalounger Co. Sadly, The Barcalounger Co eventually filed for bankruptcy and even worse the chairs are currently made in China. Interestingly, at one point The Barcalounger was made in Morristown Tn (about an hour west of me).
This is a great piece of Barcalo/Barcalounger history that I recently came across. Its a cool little item that would have sat on a desk and held Barcalounger pamphlets. Top that west coast Don and Jones Boy Len!

Len is the clear winner, for sure. I’ve always regretted leaving the BarcaLounger behind I saw for sale at a Berkeley estate sale.
I received my first Chrome Moly raised panel DOE recently. The evaporust bath improved it’s appearance a bit.

Re: BARCALOS--POST YOURS HERE
Ah, the great Barcalo Buffalo raised panel bar chrome molybdenum wrench mystery.
When placed with the ' BARCALO BUFFALO USA ' facing forward some wrenches have the left hand opening orientated upwards. On these examples the wrench sizes & ISN have swopped positions.
A line up of 723 - 25 - 27C - 28S - 731A - 33C Barcalo Buffalo DOE's will hopefully show this change of orientation
This May 1943 Price Supplement states ' Only those tools essential to the war program; all others have been discontinued for the duration'. It lists the sixteen panel bar DOE's as a ' New item not illustrated in the catalog '. The illustration clearly shows the left hand opening facing down wards.
Of particular interest is the letter dated Nov 2 1945 which states that ' This illustrates the tools we are making '.
Thanks to a recent share by Phil the wartime style panel bar Barcalo Bufalo DOE that we all recognize was discontinued by 1958. Meaning a possible manufacturing time line between late 1945 - 1958 for this particular style of Barcalo Buffalo DOE.
I have these three types in my collection - But there may be others out there
1 - Left hand opening orientated upwards with ' E ' forge mark on the reverse side with an unmarked rear panel bar.
2 - Left hand opening orientated upwards with ' E ' forge mark on the face side with an unmarked rear panel bar.
3 - Left hand opening orientated upwards without a forge mark, but marked ' CHROME MOLYBDENUM ' on the reverse side.
To further illustrate this I have shown a few 28S & 731A examples - Hopefully visible despite the obligatory resizing for posting here.
Any further comments, or info very welcome - Sorry Don, you have another challenge

I grabbed this 1033C in cosmoline from Epstein’s recent raid on a huge surplus hoard. It is marked with a Cadillac tag and a Taxi number. Phil got one too.

Just think of the manufacturing capacity we had as the Arsenal of Democracy to still have hoards like this nearly 80 years later. Impressive.

Thanks, Steve. Let me know if you need any for your GMTK. I seem to suddenly have a few extras.
