I don't know about "nice" or "the man with the plan", but I am semi-retired, addicted to vintage tools & research, abhor disorder, and I may just have a few selfish motives as well.RedArrow2016 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 15, 2018 7:00 pmWell for sure Greg is the man with the plan when it comes to dealing with tools here.

Bryan,
That is much better! I know you don't want to take the packs apart, because you have them all nice and tidy in plastic wrap and labels, but you may have to on a few packs. Not all of them. Most of them can be identified without doing that. But from now on, remember to take a picture of one representative wrench - top side and flip side, before packing them up like that. I can't emphasize how important it is to see the entire wrench - shanks included! Not just the jaw faces.
Like before, here are some notes again in the order of your photos...
- The Fairmounts - "33-C" and "33C" (this is just a variation) - all look WWII to me. Fairmount is a rich man's GMTK wrench brand, but you may get some interest here.
- The oval Brooklyn NY Williams are definitely WWI/Interwar, as I posted above. I don't know what depot you pillaged for these wrenches, but these wrenches were obviously sitting there for a looooong time!
- The Vlchek ALLOY STEEL 27 wrenches are WWII Dodge wrenches.
- The BHM MQ Moly-Alloy are good for 1941/early 1942, as I posted above.
- The 1028-S wrenches you are identifying as "FORGED IN U.S.A." are Duro-Chrome. See that mark that looks like an X inside a circle? That is actually a "D" and a "C" back to back. These are WWII wrenches!
- The Barcalo 33C are most probably WWII. I think I see what appears to be a raised panel. Really need to see one of the shanks.
- Regarding the Herbrand VAN-CHROME 1033-C. Most probably 1941/early 1942 at best. But you've got the plastic wrap obscuring the shank. Do they have a "VAN-CHROME" forged-in on the shank?
- The Arcturus are WWII, as I said above.
- The "MADE IN U.S.A. DROP FORGED" 33C wrenches are interesting. In this case you need to open them up and show the shank since that's apparently where the "DROP FORGED" and "MADE IN U.S.A." is marked. My guess is Vlchek, possibly (based on the shape, that forge number mark, and a suspicion I have had about "DROP FORGED" wrenches for quite some time), and probably postwar.
- The BONNEY 1033-C are WWII.
- The BONNEY 1034-A are also WWII, but these are not Jeep/Chevy/GMTK or Dodge wrenches.
- The 1033-C wrenches you have identified and labeled as "BONNEY FORGED IN U.S.A." are Duro-Chrome Circle-X (or Circle-DC).
- The CHROME VANADIUM STEEL 1033-C wrenches are also Duro-Chrome, but 1941/early 1942 at the latest.

Greg,
I know its more my thing than yours but don't forget about the extended gray area up until the end of 1942 for restricted alloys.

Thanks. FWIW, I have always considered it just as much my thing (even if I was operating under an alias on that subject in the beginning! ), and I am remembering.
Technically, for the pre-war alloys, I could be saying "1941/up to end of October 1942" instead of "1941/early 1942", but that is a technicality, in my opinion, because (a) we just don't know how much - or more importantly, how little - stocks of the pre-war alloys any of the mfgrs had in their backlog pipelines to use up, and (b) we haven't seen any proof that mfgrs had a lot of backlog steel. Using Bonney as a gage (because they date coded), for example, we see the 1942 CV stuff, out as far as August or so, but we see it in such rare dribs and drabs, at best, compared to the alloy stuff with 1942 date codes, that I have never viewed it as anything but an exception to the norm. If that was not the case, if we saw tons and tons of Bonney CV with 1942 date codes, and if we saw it as often or even more that we saw Bonney alloy with 1942 date codes, I would not hedge at all. I guess my point is, yes, any of the wrenches marked with a pre-war alloy could technically be leftover steel made as late as October 1942 into wrenches, I just think it's more conservative to wonder how much of it would be, give the wrench the safest probable credit it's due, and hedge on early. But you're right. That's my interpretation.
Bryan, All,
See above explanation for why I refer to pre-war alloys as "1941/early 1942". If it was steel the mfgr's already had on hand, they could use it all the way up through October 1942. Adjust your read on my tips accordingly.

Well I think that I am going to put these away for another 75 years since the sizes I have are all too big here. But it was worth the try to seeing if anyone needed anything. But thanks for all the help in this and I can not thank all the people on the G for helping me with this...

You've actually got several packs of Jeep/GMTK wrenches, Bryan! Just need to find the right guys at the right time who need the particular sizes you have... I would bump this thread every month.RedArrow2016 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 16, 2018 7:07 pmWell I think that I am going to put these away for another 75 years since the sizes I have are all too big here.
Here are the "good" wrenches in your lot (WWII, Jeep/GMTK sizes!):

- Duro-Chrome Circle-X 1033-C and 1028-S, and Duro-Chrome CHROME-VANADIUM STEEL 1033-C
- Barcalo 33C
- Herbrand VAN-CHROME 1033-C.
- Arcturus -1008-10 (28-S)

I know I'd be interested in a "set" of the correct sizes you have. I'm NOT looking for all manufacturer matching.
