If you're referring to the Herbrand water pump pliers with the 1340 AISI steel number forged in - that's unfortunate. The GMTK spec for the jaw capacity of the water pump pliers was 1-5/8" early war, 1-1/2" late war. I'd go with the J.P. Danielson, especially if they have a wartime date code.

If you mean here on G503.com, start with the links in the first stickie. It includes WWII-era NARA photos of upper echelon tool-sets, to which Roger, Phil, myself and others have added figures, analysis, and comments. Those Herbrand could be pre-war. Since the water pump pliers increased in size early to late, maybe they were even smaller in the late 30's. But my intuition is that Herbrand just made them slightly smaller. The length is typically listed as "nominal."

Re: Another gmtk set in OZ
It was 10-1/2" early, 18" late.
I have listed all of the GMTK specifications for all the tools in a sets of tables posted on page 2 of my "Retrospective" thread.
You can get to that in 3 easy clicks.
(1) Click on the "stickie" at the top of the page.
(2) Click on the "HERE" link in the very first sentence.
(3) Go to page 2 and scroll down until you hit the tables. You can't miss them.
Or save this link, here.
Don't take this the wrong way - because you know that I and others always answer questions anyway if we happen to see them, but you can help yourself, first, by using the links and guides and other info that many of us have put together. There are still subjects that probably merit questions. But many of them are just simple look-ups.

Looking good!! Waiting for warmer weather to hit flea markets here....Bigger one of the year this weekend pretty much shut down due to coldass weather....The guys 'up north' seem to not let cold weather bother them....a light snow here will close the schools and confine people to their nice warm homes....and you should see people drive 10 mph in a light rain....
