I'd picked up the notion the gull wing shape is a guaranteed indicator of Vlchek pliers; is that incorrect?
No, that is not incorrect. It's correct. I don't know of any other mfgrs that used that shape. Gull wing handles ARE a guaranteed indicator of Vlchek. All their pliers weren't gull wings though. I don't know the distinctions (i.e., year, customer, etc).

The file cleaner I found in one of my dads tool boxes and checked the thread of the file cleaners and found it was the same brand and very very similar to wartime so it will do for a fill in for now

The Flying V vlchek pliers with the regular style handles always have the checker dot grip pattern indicative of Crescent manufacturing. They (Vlchek) must have sourced pliers from Crescent at some point, but only for a brief time.

Thanks, all, for straightening me out!

43Chevy, enjoy them - those pliers aren't cheap on this side of the pond. I'm a little jealous you got them for a good price...

One of mine was a gift, the other an estate sale find so they were inexpensive. I don’t know what they go for on the Internet.

o we don’t have flea markets down under but here is some of my recent finds ,
the slip joint pliers , 6” & 12” wrench’s and I’m pretty sure the water pump pliers are all J.P danielson

There’s a number on the craftsman shears 4546 over an x

The perfect handle is the correct size for the 6” it does have a marking on it some kind of circle

The stubby double ender is blue point

And the 8” lineman pliers are crescent

On a side note I picked up a couple of barcalos doubles

That's a decent haul.

The water pump pliers are definitely JPD - nice find! They should have a date code. Something like L.X.4. The number is the year. It will be at the end of the markings inside the panel.

If the "marking" you're describing as "some kind of circle" on the screwdriver is on the flat tip of the blade, it's probably a Tobrin. They marked the size of the shaft (up to the handle) there.

What are the markings on the Blue-Point stubby DBE? Hard to read the model number and sizes upside down. :) Also, it may also have a date code. Many Snap-on and Blue-Point tools do.

I have a pair of 4546X Craftsman snips, but they have a geometric logo and it's not stamped on a pad like that, so I'm not sure when yours were made. That might take some catalog research. EDIT: The 4546X in the 41, 42, and 48 catalogs do not have that pad with the logo on it. I suspect they are either earlier or perhaps post-war. I included a photo of my Craftsman 4546X snips, which look like the snips in the 40's catalogs, in the Fed Specs thread for snips, linked here.

I know that inked Irwin’s are the bee’s knees of everyone’s tool kit but was there others manufacturers of the perfect handled screwdrivers that went into the tool kit?

The DBE has the code of. WX 1215116

And I can’t view the photos in the link that you sent

I believe that the Blue Point shorty is Whitworth. The Stillson pipe wrench doesn’t look to have a removable lower jaw so it’s not HD. Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings. Some of us believe that handle stamped Tobrin perfect handle screwdrivers are just as correct as Irwin ink stamped drivers. This one is in my MVMTS. Unfortunately, they are just about as hard to find as ink marked Irwins.

What I mean about removable jaws is hopefully made clearer by these pictures. I had used Stillson style wrenches in my MVMTS until Wingnutt pointed out the difference. I recommend this link!
