Re: Another gmtk set in OZ
Picked these up on Saturday , I think the proto’s Are post was , but are correct sizes and will be a good fill in for now
The speeder is unbranded , but comes very close to the original sizes , ( not sure if they’ve got a tolerance on sizes for these)
Found a couple of doe’s aswell
I’m really happy about the stubby screwdriver
The perfect can’t see any markings on it yet , have to clean it up abit further , but is the right size

Re: Another gmtk set in OZ
I’ve acquired a ignition set for my kit recently it came with a few duro’s and has been doubled up in the past ,
and have found some other bits and pieces , I think these pliers look like they go into a ignition set ( correct me if I’m wrong ).

Re: Another gmtk set in OZ
If you mean the HERBRAND next to the tappet wrench, those are water pump pliers. Ignition pliers have the same sort of pattern (parrot nose, tongue and groove or slip joint, long handles), but they are miniature (EDIT: 5"). Those are way too long, with jaws that are too big, for ignition work. They are nice water pump pliers for a GMTK though! It looks like they may have an AISI steel number forged into the handle. If so, that is a known HERBRAND wartime characteristic. If so, I would put them in your GMTK as the water pump pliers. Most collectors choose Champion DeArment CHANNLEOCKS, because they can be reliably dated to wartime with the patent, or J.P Danielson, because they are date-coded. The AISI steel number, if that's what it is, on those HERBRAND would serve the same purpose, and be very unique. What is the number? Can you make it out?
The ignition wrenches with the concave panel in the shank are interesting. They resemble Bonney -ZENEL- to me. But I've never seen any that were unbranded. Those are cool.

Ok thanks for the info , I’m away at the moment so can’t compare the sizes of the water pump pliers , but the herbrand looks smaller in length than my J.P Danielsons,
Number looks like 4150, but there’s 1340 on the other side of the pliers

Re: Another gmtk set in OZ
Shaun,
Sorry for not getting photos direct to you by now but 2018 was the worst possible year for me, I am getting back on track now so I will get things organised. I have as you may now as complete a GMTK that will be found out here and putting it together with help from a few guys here has left me with lots of surplus but 100% correct items.
As you only live up the road a little from me it may (meaning it would be) worth a drive up to my place as I know I will be able to fill gaps in your kit.
Old photo attached of part of mine.
I will be in touch. Happy new year all.

That may be so, but they're NOT ignition pliers. Ignition pliers are literally the size of your pinky finger and no bigger.
THAT is the AISI number! Carbon-manganese. A WWII tell! Nice find.43chevy wrote:but there’s 1340 on the other side of the pliers

Regarding your comment , there a lot smaller than the j.p’s aswell as the jaw opening is smaller , not even 1”

That’s wonderful that John has offered you the benefit of his experience. He is an extremely knowledgeable collector and will be very helpful in minimizing purchases of incorrect tools, and he’s a great guy as well!
