Re: WLA 2nd echelon tools thread
Interesting tool, Combination Volt-Ammeter, federal number, none ,Harley number 11828-x. This works by twisting the dial face to the volt or amp number you are working with listed on the side of the wooden box, or on the ring at the base of the guage stack. Not shown in any manual being used, all pictures show a western 280 type meter used, see my other thread.

Rawhide Mallet, federal number 41-M-486, Harley Number 12034-X
There was a lot of confusion on this one as no one could pinpoint the size of this one. A 41-M-487 I believe the number was, is a 4lb so I just assumed this number mallet would be a 3lb. NOTE: the picture in the manuel has a small emblem on the head which looks just the the Chicago Rawhide emblem. I repainted mallet to original.

Copper Hammer Federal number 41-H-265, Harley number 11970-X ,
The manual lists this as a 1lb hammer, copper used as a soft non marring metal and will not spark. Mostly used to straighten flywheels. Hammer though in my opinion looks small.

Manifold wrench, Federal number41-w-1570-10, Harley number, 12003-x.
Used to remove the large 1 7/8 nuts holding manifold onto cylinders. The numbers cast into handle are original numbers listing yhis to earlier JD models I believe.

Re: WLA 2nd echelon tools thread
Valve cover wrench, Federal number, none listed, Harley number, 11806-31.
Used to remove side valve covers and adjust tappet in no valve adjustment wrenches are available. Though a Federal number is not listed one is stamped into the side of this one includeing a manufacture mark. Could be late or post war? Seen two like this now.
ADD: I added a manual picture to show that this wrench is indeed listed with a Federal stock number in the caption in a 1942 dated manual. Not sure then why the 1943 Harley book does not list said number.

Re: WLA 2nd echelon tools thread
WLA lifter guide remover tool, Federal number 41-P-2956, Harley number 11960-38, The collor threads onto top of the guide and then uses the lifter head as a base from what to pull up on as the two clam shells close around the puller arms and a small ridge on the collor. The book shows a small piece that i can only guess is a spacer to keep the universal pullers pointed end from crushing or wrecking the lifter pushing surface. See last picture. These pullers are used in a few spots on the bike. If you ever delt with the Harley 45 you know how darn stubborn these blocks can be to remove.

Re: WLA 2nd echelon tools thread
Wrench, head bolt
federal number, 41-w-1525
HRD number, 12047--30A
The wrench is a 9/16 size, used to fit in the tight space between the motorcycle tanks and the head bolts, for removal.
Another tool that has been talked about among the ranks of WLA owners. Many say the two piece with the stepped head to handle area is a post war tool. I have seen both types pictured in TM that are dated to war time use. (Keep a eye out in my other "tools in use "post). These are used in both the 2nd echelon tool kit and the mid to late war user toolkit kept on the cycle.

Clutch disk puller
federal number 41-p-1550-25
HRD number 12655-26
used to pull the clutch apart. The tool has 6 holes, three for the big twins and 3 for the 45 clutch. The 3 longer clutch rods go through the holes then are bolted down and then puller used the pivoting head to center puller as the shaft is turned. Modern repos have many more holes as it is used for multiple models.

Connecting rod lapping arbor. Federal number41-A-337-10, Harley number 11944-X
Used to match the connecting rod to crank shaft pin bearing hole surfaces. Also to resize same hole for oversized bearing/pin combinations. The two collars are drawn together with a arbor wrench to oh so slightly squeeze the center part making it expan thus cutting the hole bigger.
Interesting to note the main shaft is marked, "US QMC" in two places. One upside down other right side up depending on how one views it. One on shank, the other under the arbor cutter.

Wheel truing stand with wheel arbors. Federal stock number 41-S-4995, Harley number 12028-X. Nice tool, repainted and I made the two pointers from originals. I believe the flat curved tip may be post war.
