Re: What about 3/8" drive tools?
I know Wingnutt has a much more complete set but I've been cobbling together some Williams bits, too. Williams didn't make all the pieces for a 41-W-2616 set, but I'm close to having the pieces they did make. Aside from the 41-B-153-100 crossbar that they did not make (and their B-40 flex handle had no hole for it anyway) and the 41-W-2999-25 5/16" socket (B-1210) that was discontinued (according to the 1943 catalog) I'm just missing the 41-J-378 (B-140) universal joint and the 41-W-2999-100 1/2" (B-1216) and 41-W-2999-225 11/16" (non-shiny B-1222) sockets.

I’ve been gradually putting together this 3/8” drive wartime S-K set. I’m missing the 1/2” socket but have extra 7/16” and 5/8” sockets.

Nice set, Bill. I'll keep my eyes peeled for your missing pieces. I do have something you may want. Check your PM.

Re: What about 3/8" drive tools?
I had this box in the garage for a while and I finally realized that there was some resemblance to my postwar S-K 3/8” drive deep socket set. It was missing almost all of the paint so I painted it with the Midwest Military spray paint that is a good match to the wartime S-K sets. I wondered about the extra space in the box but checking the cover of the ‘43 catalog that seems to be normal. The set would have to be from ’41 or ‘42. Although it isn’t indicated in the listing, I suspect that it may have come with the less common 12 point sockets.

I went through my 12 point deep sockets and added them to the early set. I ordered a 3/4” deep socket on eBay. Now I just have to find 3/8” and 1/2” deep 12 point sockets. Here is the set alongside my postwar set.

Re: What about 3/8" drive tools?
Hi everyone!
This thread reminded me that I have a small box of 3/8" drive tools around that I haven't seen in years! I am going to have to look for them, there was an older gentleman who was selling surplus and overstock tools for many years, and I was fortunate enough to pick up some repacks (probably early 1950s, but I don't remember any dates) of 3/8" drive tools. I do recall some non-repack G series sockets that were parkerized, 12 point I think. Now I have to find it all.

I’m looking forward to seeing them.
I received the missing 1/2” wartime socket to complete my S-K 3/8” drive set posted upthread on Thursday as part of a tool trade. The set looks more filled out with my extra sockets added. I also found a repro decal online that was the correct size to replace the original that was missing.

Re: What about 3/8" drive tools?
I’ve been trying to understand the contents of the early S-K 3/8” drive deep socket set I’ve been putting together and think that I’ve now figured it out. The first version of the set came with a shorter 5/8” socket which was shortly thereafter changed to a deeper socket which would work on spark plugs installed in ‘41 Buicks and ‘41 & ‘42 Chevys. I found a rather unusual partial set on eBay that had the 12 point sockets I was missing. It included one of the earlier short 5/8” sockets. It seems as if my box was designed to work with either length socket so I ended up including both in my final version. Here are the images that led to my conclusions.

Hey everyone!
The good news is that I happened across the extensions yesterday while doing some spring cleaning, so I will get some photos of them posted this week.

Re: What about 3/8" drive tools?
I bought this 3/8” drive mostly S-K lot on eBay recently. It came with a PWA 1397 3/8” drive breaker bar that I understand was supplied by Bonney. I mainly got it for what is obviously a wartime unmarked S-K extension which I promptly added to my S-K set.

Re: What about 3/8" drive tools?
Hey everyone!
Here are a some photos of the NOS/repack 3/8" drive sockets and extensions I mentioned.
[ I do not know why the photos came out so small? ]
Snap-On socket (believe this was a 12 point)
Duro Socket (If you look close you can see the 'G' on it)
The extensions, PLVMB, WRIGHT, Snap-On (from memory) and I do not recall the names on the others.
Here is a view of the tag with the stock number: '41 B 305 500 8'
The funny thing is that I see 'MrBill' posted some like this back in 2017 he got from eBay. I bought mine from an older gentleman (Navy veteran too) circa 2009/10 who sold surplus and overstock items at vintage engine shows. The sockets for example, he was selling like 8 to a bag for maybe all of $1 or 2; the catch? They were all the same size and same manufacturer! The extensions he had sold fast, but he was asking under $3 each for them.

Re: What about 3/8" drive tools?
Jason recently alerted me to these wartime Plomb 3/8” drive universal sockets on eBay. I picked them up to add to my wartime set. It will end up kind of a combination of these three sets it the catalog and look a lot like Bill’s set shown at the beginning of the thread.

Just that one. I’m missing the 1/2” socket but I imagine that one will turn up.

Speaking of 1/2” sockets, I’ve never been happy with the 1/2” shallow socket in this set so I grabbed this pair of plain finish sockets off of eBay
