Last night's auction score. Need to swap one of these blocks for a single sheave version. This rope is about 120 ft. Which honestly is plenty long enough for a display. A full 300 ft coil is going to get really heavy.
19-B-8320-105 BLOCK, tackle, manila rope, steel shell, double bronze bushed sheave; loose hook, w/o becket, rope circumference 3 in

Now I'm looking for 19-B-8324 BLOCK, tackle, manila rope, steel shell single bronze bushed sheave, loose hook, w/becket, rope circumference 3 in.

Then today I picked up this Vietnam era trouble lamp.

Which I think is a descendent of the 17-C-35079 CORD, light extension, 6 ., heavy duty, two conductor...

Matt,

Congrats! You've had a great run recently.

I wanted to come up to go to Hershey, but it snuck up on me...I wasn't paying enough attention to the calendar.

The local flea markets to me have been abysmal so I drove 45 minuted today to another state. Did a bit better:

fullsizeoutput_f35.jpeg
fullsizeoutput_f1e.jpeg
The thickness gage is 9 leaves, but isn't quite the right spec. The sockets are 1/4 or maybe 9/16 drive. I haven't gone through them yet. The DBE is just a filler for my working toolbox until I find a better one. Pliers are 8" long but only marking I can make out is 2ND. The Shovel is a U-D which seems to be one of the Union Fork & Hoe marks. Really nice tip on it. Socks aren't marked but were only a dollar. The cap seems to be Marine Corps. The reflector was the first item I picked up. I figured I'd use it on my Ben Hur trailer. I might still. But somebody stuck an F Script mark on it. Those pesky GPW people.

Weekend two of driving across state lines to find good stuff. A successful weekend. I returned a second day to find more. Not a whole lot in the tools department but just enough to keep me coming back.

Like these ignition pliers. Close examination shows them to be "WK Jamestown" and ostensibly according to Alloy Artifacts a 1930's Western Auto product. Alas, they'll go into the user GMTK for actual maintenance. The wire cutters are WS Co 1945 dated. Today I found the Walden socket handle and Lectrolite DBE.
fullsizeoutput_f65.jpeg
fullsizeoutput_f66.jpeg
But today's really productive score for developing my 2nd Echelon set are these regulators and hoses. One step closer to doing some gas welding/cutting/brazing at events. Need to get gauges, tanks and the torch itself. Nice part is these regulators have flashback arresters installed. A feature I was going to add to any set I put into service. I already had picked up the correct wrench.

Need:

41-T-3812 TORCH, Oxy-Acetylene, Med. Welding and cutting, complete w/wrench, welding tips, sizes: 2,3/4/5 and 9 and cutting tips, sizes: 12,3, and 5
51-C-2175 CYLINDER, acetylene, 225-cu. ft.
51-C-2225 CYLINDER, oxygen, 220-cu. ft.

Guages need to be 0-50 and 0-500 for the Acetylene and 0-200 and 0-3000 for the Oxygen.

Here's some recent pickups. The tool box, a Hamilton Metal Products with tray (no oiler hole) was the real steal. Set me back $10. The Utica No. 91-8 Adjustable looks like a wartime finish to me. Either that or the chrome has worn off really well. Be a good wrench for the GMTK or any other tool kit. For some reason I can't seem to find 8" adjustable wrenches in the wild very often. I can find 6" and 10" all day long. In fact I probably have 5 or 6 of each of those sizes at home right now from the 30's up through fairly current ones bought for work. The wire cutters are obviously US, but I don't know the era. Seems you can still get these as military surplus now.

Hmmm, I'm wondering if that box is wartime? Hamilton made that box with no feet and no oiler hole in the tray for a while after the war. There would have been a 'Climax' sticker on the lid. I think I can still see the remnants of the sticker. Check the toolbox thread in the sticky, I think there's a picture of the Climax branded box in there.

The Utica adjustable may be post war as well. I believe the branding would have been <U><TI><CA> on the inset panel. Someone more knowledgeable than me can confirm.

At least you're getting out there and finding stuff. I'm hiding from the RONA.

Jason,

Thanks for commenting. The toolbox does have the bottom feet/corners. Just can't see them in these pictures. So looking at Hartofoak's type study that would put this box somewhere in the Type 0 to Type 1 range.

Regarding the wrench so far I only have this from Alloy Artifacts:
Sometime in the mid 1940s Utica dropped the raised panel design, but continued using forged-in markings on the shank, at least for Utica's own production.
That kind of vagueness doesn't help much. Nor does the fact that the examples on their website are the raised diamonds or the later ones with markings different then mine. I'll keep looking I suppose. I did some snooping around the internets in general and I'm beginning to agree that it looks to be a later wrench. Appears the chrome wasn't really great on these and can wear off. Oh well, it'll be a place holder until a better one comes along.

Work and life has kept me away from the flea market. Apparently for TWO YEARS! So I made up for it today. I scored a few useful items I still need to photograph and share. But the winningest item of them all is this 1939 PLOMB Tools catalog that was mailed to the US Naval Academy!

Don, thanks. It is so cool. I need to carefully preserve the letter with it. Now onto the other purchases.

LECTROLITE battery terminal pliers, WALDEN 10" 1/2" extension and 3 Nicholson hacksaw blades. Not pictured is aa 16" rolling head pinch bar, it's newer and unmarked but will stand in nicely in my user GMTK and a trouble lamp I picked up for cheap, but realize the one in the catalog doesn't have the auxiliary outlet on it like this one. Alas, the hunt continues.

Jason,

Thanks. And I got to go again today! No incredible catalog like last time. But still a good day...

I was supposed to be at Tank Farm, then I was going to be out of town for work. Then that changed and I got into some home projects. But I slipped out for a couple of hours to hit the flea market and came away with the following:

>An orphaned tray. Which it turns out I DON'T have an empty box for it to go into. Weird feeling.
>American Lock Company US marked lock with key and chain. tag on the key and paint on the lock both are numbered "29"
>Williams 1519 Ignition Pliers
>McKaig-Hatch 6” combination slip-joint pliers with the circle MH Logo
>Camron US marked 6" side cutters
>Billings M1028-3 5/8-25/32 DOE
>VLCHEK 731A 3/4-7/8 DOE
>Hercules "Knife Handle" screwdriver, never seen one before and it seems to fit the spec
>1940 National Electric Code and 1943 Supplement
IMG_1707.jpeg
IMG_1709.jpeg
IMG_1710.jpeg
IMG_1706.jpeg
It was a good day.

Those code books are nice finds. I have a 1937 code book. They redo them every 3 years. I wonder because of the war if the supplement was put out since it is dated April 1943 so maybe they did not bother with code books until war ended? My 1937 is a around 320 pages and the new ones are over 800 now. My first code book is 1978 the year I started in trade.

Steve you are 100% correct on that guess. From the inside cover of the supplement:
The practice of issuing a new edition of the National Electrical Code has been discontinued for the duration of the war emergency. The 1940 edition will remain in effect with such amendments as may be deemed necessary to meet the present emergency.
Sometime today for giggles I"m going to take a photo of the 1940 NEC next to the latest edition at work. I don't have newer code books of my own as we have them in the office here.

Picked this up for little money at the local auction house. I've never seen a tool roll like this before. The mix of electrical and carpentry tools on the list is interesting. Not many tools remain in it, but the ones that do are unused. Brand new, still sealed up Irwin bits, a Greenlee extension and a handful of screwdrivers along with the saws, hacksaw blades and ruler.
