Re: Tool Cabinet Variants
Looks really good. But be careful, you hang around this place long enough you'll want to fill it with original tools. Then depending on significant others you may have to move it to the garage
Matt
P.S. Nice touch with preserving the tags. I've been thinking about how to mark mine functionally since I have that goes to living history displays and is full of tools. A too list on a clipboard with drawer numbers might be the way to go.

Re: Tool Cabinet Variants
If anyone is in the market, there's one FS in Raleigh, NC now on Facebook Marketplace; usual caveats apply. At $750 asking price for his 1996 cabinet with a particle board top, I'm not interested.

Um, no. At that price, he's going after the kind of people would re-paint it blue and put a plant on it in their nouveau retro industrial loft!

You are absolutely correct. “Industrial Chic”. It’s big for “repurposing” industrial tools, cabinets, light fixtures, etc. It’s these folks that we have to sometimes compete against at flea markets. On the other hand... the promise of big dollars for industrial artifacts does tend to make people that have them bring them out for sale. So... there’s that.
Thank you,
Henry

Re: Tool Cabinet Variants
What I thought was black paint on this 41-C-15 was just years of grime...that came off with some degreaser and brass brush...it cleaned up PDG

The Ugly Duckling
I have been waiting years to post a box in this thread. Literally, there's a post from me on page two of this thread from 2017...
Scrolling through the FaceBook Marketplace I had already found a few of these 41-C-15 cabinets, ranging in price from $350 up to $750 each. All of them being quite a distance away (closest being 4.5 hours) and obviously too rich for my blood, Hard Pass.
Moving on, I think my next search was for 'Tool Cart'. Scrolling through pages and pages of ads I come across this guy.
Hmmm... That sure looks the part, right!? Listed at $125 bucks, that's doable for sure... Located in FairBorn, OH. Okay, let's map it. Only an hour and 15 minutes up the road. Excellent. Call the guy, it's still available! Negotiate the price down some in typical cheap @ss mudbox fashion and I'm on my way!
Turns out, Fairborn Ohio is right next door to this venerable institution:
I guess someone was a Bengals fan. While the drawers are black and orange, the remainder of the exterior is orange. However, the inside of the drawers are still olive drab. I'll be hitting it with some simple green and trying to get the orange and black paint off to see what's hiding under it.
The heavy casters are a welcome addition. 4 swivel casters which are welded on. 2 of those casters in the rear are welded again so they no longer rotate. Rolls very well.
Additionally, there's a 1/8" plate of steel screwed to the top. I'll probably keep it on there, the wood on top shows some significant wear and separation under the plate.
Anyway, I'm calling it the ugly duckling. Compared to the other beautiful examples posted in this thread, this one falls short. But it's mine, all mine.

"Mine, all mine" counts for a lot more than pretty...or not. Congrats, and enjoy. Let us see what all goes into it once it's (partially?) filled.

Re: Tool Cabinet Variants
Thanks guys. I started stripping some layers of paint today. MAN, there's like 6 layers of paint on this thing. I think it's been around for a long time.
I found this Wright Patterson Air Force Base property tag under a couple of layers of paint.
And, I've got one side down to Olive Drab. 2 more sides to go and then
all
those
drawers...
