Finally ...
Thanks to Don ( this thread is his fault after all ... ) I finally managed to pick up a General 753 tri-fold rule:
That means I've got a couple of weeks to find that Plomb 86A 1" Cold Chisel and finish the set before it is the one year anniversary of Don starting me off.
Thanks again Don.

Gordon,
I'm glad the rule made it across the ocean to you. I'm looking for that 1" chisel but no luck so far. I'm still picking up these tools when I see them. I found these at an estate sale on Friday.

Thanks again Don.
The postage doubled the cost, then the UK Customs did their bit and doubled it again, but it is now safely in the box. I have a couple of contemporary 24" folding USA rules that can now come out of that box and go to live in other boxes - nothing will be wasted.
The Plomb 86A Cold Chisel does exist as a 1" chisel, from memory at both 8" and 12" lengths, but I've never seen one. The 86A series is really common from around 3/8" up to 7/8" but below 3/8" and above 1" they are not common at all. There was Plomb 86 version prior to the 86A ( maybe they changed the material? ) and a Proto 86A too.

General 753 tri-fold rule
Don kindly sent me the General 753 tri-fold rule I needed for my set, but this past week I saw my first ever one on the auction site here in the UK, so I bought it just in case ( I was going to say on General principle ... )
Finish is a little dull and the metal has three pitting marks on the first 12" but it is otherwise fine. I'm happy to leave it in one of my boxes, or anyone here that really needs it can have it for what I paid for it, £9 or US$ 14 plus postage to wherever you are. Probably only makes sense financially in the UK.

Finally : MY TOOL-SET, MACHINISTS' 41-T-3537
I've been looking for a 1" Plomb cold chisel to complete my machinists' set since I got into this thread all that time ago.
Plomb cold chisels are relatively common in all the smaller sizes, but 1" seems to be difficult to find. They came as 8" or 12" long, and I'd think that the smaller 8" one would have been more appropriate for the set. After all this time one turned up here in the UK on that auction site:
It is an 86, rather than the later 86A which I assume was an alloy change - no evidence though - and at 7 5/8" long it has lost 3/8" in its eighty year career.
I'm dating it as 1938 as it is Plomb Los Angeles rather than Plomb Made in USA, and the code stamping is 8A. The previous owner stamped it RSA which may show in the image.
No big deal really, just one of those things that had been nagging at me to get it done and the set completed, and no reason at all to assemble this set with a heavy Plomb bias, that's just me. I've left the auction search running in case a later 86A turns up and I can swap it in, and then this one can go in the ordinary Plomb box.

Congratulations on the chisel find that completes your set. I’ve looked at a lot of Plomb 86A listings on the auction site and I’ve still never seen one with a 1” cut. How about a shot of the whole set together?

I'll give it a try some time Don.
I've loaded so much additional material in there it is a monster now, barely liftable, but we'll see.

Still at it.
Although I have completed the Machinist's Set, I had to use a handful of generic or unbranded items for things like the scriber and the drift, so when I see a branded item passing by I generally try to pick it up and swap it in. Latest pick up is a General Hardware No 80 Scriber:
... just one of those housekeeping tasks that needed doing, and Don, yes, the set is now too heavy for me to lift it due to all the other contemporary US machinist-type stuff I have put in the box.
