No prob. I've always found it strange they did that. Most of the other mfgrs transitioned DOE and DBE lines at the same time.

Bonney wrenches were not even on my radar until tonight. I know that I have a few in a box so I just went out to check to see what I have. Naturally, I only have one in the 585 series. Date code K T. Now the search begins for the rest.

Greg, I have all six sizes for a GMTK, and maybe Phil Jones will have the time to snap a picture. I have not yet decided whether Zenels or Duro Chrome will be my keeper.
Possibly one of the Zenels has a post war code. Will let you know.

Now we have 2 examples !

In my experience any of the 585 series are rare over here, as are any correct Bonney's.
Limited access.

Roger,
FWIW in my experience with the repacks these were present but only herbrand had less numbers. Of note the Wynmkr kit included this style. No doubt a desirable set to put together.

Nice wrench, Robin! I feel terrible for you though, only having that one tiny wrench from the set. You should send it to me for proper disposal!

Once last photo from his set. I just noticed the 3033C still has its original sticker on the handle.

Luca, I can't speak for their former curator but they are well stored now.

I know, Phil, I know! :) And I am sure they will look good again one day.

I like Greg's definition: a set for someone who really likes to be different! While I would not have ever thought to use the five size set as a motorpool jeep set, the set for a GMTK has exactly the appeal that Greg suggested. And a set of Herbrands would serve more or less the same purpose in my book.

As long as we're breaking out a Bonney -ZENEL- wrench party on a Bonney 585 and Bonney Z41-W- thread... :D

...I'll show off these five (5) near-mint condition Bonney -ZENEL- wrenches again...

Image
Image

...and some better, more recent photos...

Image
Image

They are the complete Bonney No. 20 Miniature Wrench Set as shown at the bottom of this page from the 1943 catalog.

Image

They all have "ET" (edit May 1942) date codes, with these being the only wrenches (they are miniature!) it's legible to the naked eye on...

Image

More importantly, although these are not GMTK electrical wrenches, they are cited in the March 1945 ORD 5 SNL J-4, along with their mfgr/model codes (BF-H-10 through BF-H-18), which match the model numbers stamped into their jaw faces, in the same section as other miniature electrical or ignition duty wrenches.

Image

I suspect that they are in the same finish as your larger -ZENEL- wrenches, Luca. The shanks are cadmium plated (perhaps dully chromed) and the heads are buffed bright.

Wouldn't a BONNEY date code of "ET" indicate that was E=May - T=1942?
May, 1942?
