BTT. Even though Wingnutt is gone, his research is as valuable as ever! Too bad it won't be updated in the future.

Can we get the moderator to make the relevant GMTK posts sticky?

There was no reference to P&C in either of the sources I used for these lists, Todd, reflecting, I concluded, their status as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Plomb during the war. There are definitely wartime tools marked P&C (including WF-xx marked USAAF contract wrenches), but technically, I view those as a Plomb brand, since Plomb continued letting them use that brand for several years. Given P&C's history as a supplier on its own, I should definitely make an annotation to that effect similar to the other M&A type brand and sub-brand annotations I have made (e.g., ATHA, etc).

Guys,

1st post has been updated:

Added:

- James Ryan Tool Works. Silly's MB has some RYAN USA chisels. They had a 1942-1943 contract with ORD for "TOOLS" worth $86K. Could be them.

- An entire VISES section with several vise mfgrs, all with ORD and/or QMC contracts, explicitly for vises, machinists vises, or machinists bench vises...

Columbian had four (4) with ORD and Navy from 1942 to 1945 for $358K
Desmond Stephan had four (4) with QMC and Navy from 1943 to 1945 for $297K
Morgan had two (2) with ORD and Navy from 1942 to 1943 worth $483K
Prentiss had four (4) with ORD and Navy from 1942 to 1944 worth $475K
Reed had three (3) with QMC from 1942-1944 worth $208K

I also added Charles Parker, who had a dozen or so contracts with Corp of Eng, ORD, and Navy for tools and machine tools worth $2.205M. Vises were not referenced explicitly, but it's hard to imagine a tools contract with Charles Parker not including vises.

Cool about Ryan, I have found a few references to JJ Ryan tool works in Southington Conneticut which seemed to be in business into the seventies.

I was glad that one was there for you! There is a hard-to-read initial, by the way, that now pops off the page better as a "J".

And I verified the UNITED punches (of wynmakr set fame) as well, just forgot to post that above.

I didn't realize - and I apologize for not realizing sooner - that "Rock Island" was a brand name, not a Mfgr's name, during the war. The Mfgr on record was Birtman Electric, in Rock Island, Illinois, who bought out Rock Island Vise in the 30's. I have seen these data plates on some Rock Island vises - including one owned by Gordon, and I erroneously thought it was a distributor or a customer, a mistake further perpetuated by the fact that not all "Rock Island" vises have the plates, and the fact that nobody calls them "Birtman" vises.

Birtman Electric had many wartime contracts, including several for vises, all with the Navy.

I am happy to remove them from List C and add them to List A!

Good to get that cleared up, never thought they wouldn't have a contract but I hadn't noticed the company name.

Worth re-posting the image then;

I found this February 1943 version online.

https://catalog.hathitrust.org/Record/1 ... tracts&ft=

I appreciate it is different to the end of war version.

The introductory note is interesting as it seems to suggest that it is only for contracts that have not been completed ?

Cinncinnati Ball Crank is listed even though it should of changed its name to Balcrank by then.
