Jason, I think the reason we never got a glimpse into the bottom of that toolbox was that the bayonet and the Duro ratchet had accidentally been left in a hole in Germany.

Despite the misleading name of my MVMTS thread I continue to fine tune and update my set. As time goes by this has given me time to focus on the small details such as the hacksaw blades. While the hacksaw blade specs call for 12" blades 1/2 or 9/16" wide with 24 points/inch it is interesting that the hacksaw specs call for a hacksaw that must adjust from 8-12". Why?

I traded my Barcalo water pump pliers for a pair of JP Danielson with a '42 date code only because it could be dated and the Barcalo could not though both are verified suppliers.

I added another set of ignition wrenches marked 41-W-900. Unfortunately there are no other identifying marks on them. Compared to the Duro sets many of us have used they are very fragile and prone to breaking.

I also traded out my Rigid 6" pipe wrench for this one.

While not technically part of this kit I couldn't help but add this very cool file cleaner.

Nice updates, Phil.

As far as I know, only Greg Hines and you have a full set of the no-name 41-W-900 embossed ignition wrenches, and I don't know if his came in a roll-up. Very cool. (Is that actual leather? or leatherette in very good condition?) The fragility of the wrenches is due to their construction. They were stamped out of pressed steel.

I've never seen a date stamp (if that's a date stamp) on a WALCO before. Nice.

Greg,
I am not sure if that is a date code or not but I choose this one hoping it was given my set has a '42 flare.

This ignition wrench set would argue against the FSN being stamped on tools as late war or post war wouldn't it? Clearly, it is more consistent with the early war ignition set ie 7 pieces than late and likely post war sets which included more pieces. This is the leatherette I found it with and it appears to be original but I have no way to know for sure. There is no indication of brand on it either.

Greg you may recognize that file cleaner.

Phil, some great additions to an already fantastic kit!
Where do you keep finding this stuff!!
Looks like I'll have to step up my game a bit.
Seriously though, well done.
Looks like you've still got the Owatonna 1/2" drive bar in there, and I see a very clearly marked Bridgeport driver in the tray as well.

I've got a 6" Walco pipe wrench as well, with 51 forged into the handle and the jaw. I feel like it almost has to be a date code. Easy way to tell if the jaw had been warrantied already? :?:

I can't believe that you and Wingnutt both have that same File card with a pick. Are you sure you guys aren't just trading that same one back and forth? Seriously, I really hope to find one of those someday. I also like the Danielson water pump pliers. I believe we both got ours from the same gentleman on the Gee. I recently was lucky enough to find another dated set on the auction site that was just the vintage I was looking for. It seems like the possibilities for upgrades of these sets is endless. Oh well, it keeps it interesting!

You're thinking of a Nicholson. I had two with picks. I traded Phil this one for some other tools.

What is the FSN on those so I can add them to my list? Nice patina too!

Don,
And you thought it was heavy before! I found these in my wife's grandfather's old barn today. The FSN is 41-W-2HVY.

I thought I was done with my 32oz hammer (41-H-527) but then I came across this one....still in cosmoline. It reminds me very much of Luca's NOS 16oz Fairmount hammer. While the length of the handle is not specified this one is just over 16" in length. I am also pleased to find the Fairmount sticker. My recently posted Fairmount catalog had the same sticker but there was no way of knowing if this sticker was used prior to '55. Given this sticker and cosmoline together I believe it dates it closer to ww2.

Phil, it looks like you reached into your catalog and pulled out a brand new hammer. It looks great in your box next to your brand new ink marked Irwin. Interesting that it has that pein shape with all the recent discussion on that subject. A wonderful addition to your set!
