Robin is your jack from a specific vehicle ???

What do you think the VII signifies.... 7th Corp, 7th Brigade ???

Your SJ2010 looks exactly the same as mine. Thanks for posting.

Thanks,
Ramblin Randy

I am helping my parents downsize and came across this jack. This seem the only place that I have found any info about it. On the side SJ2010 is cast into it. The bottom of it reads A.S. Mfg. Co. / SJ2003 / 4. Rated at 4000 LBS. It turns freely, raising and lowering as it should. The same green paint that I've seen on another posted here. I may have the handle, but will have to look.

Is this one that would date to WWII? Any idea what vehicle it would have been used on? I have not seen one of these for sale - what would be a realistic value?

Thanks in advance.

Paul

This undated pic of a WC-51/-52 layout just popped up on the 'net. Worth posting, as it shows a "flat top" jack, rather than the earlier style Y shaped top. Guessing it's a later picture, given the dimpled top of the jack.

There were probably design variations. I remember the early jacks were mechanical and the late war ones hydraulic.

The 3/4ton pic above is interesting - anyone know the details of where and when it was taken. It appears to show a motor pool layout rather than a factory fresh vehicle. The jack in that pic is what I understand to be the half ton jack ie short, four dimple top and no carry handle. There are a lot of civilian jacks that look similar but not quite the same.

Ausco made a 3 ton hydraulic jack that they supplied to the military during WW2 that is unusual due to its pronounced conical design - have several nos ones but have never found any info on what vehicles they were issued with.

Speculation only but the long and short taper 3/4 ton jack might be an attempt to conserve material - the Hein Werner jacks also were revised during WW2.

Mid-WW2 I’d guess, note later headlight brush guards and civilian pattern spare tire. I vaguely remember the very early 3/4 just got same jack as 1/2 ton, later on, around the time the 6x6 was introduced, they went to a hydraulic 3 ton
