Agreed. Some moisture got inside on the tray, but was confined to that one end.

Re: GMTK Toolboxes
What a great find to add to your collection Greg! If you put all those GMTK tools in it, there're bound to damaged the "virgin" paintwork. I've lined my examples with butyl rubber sheet on both surfaces so as to reduce this happening (it was left over from building my garden fish pond!).

Re: GMTK Toolboxes
Hi Cliff,
Good to "see" you! Hope all is well. That's good advice. But this box will be for sale eventually.
My GMTK is in a box with weight and dimensions (export spec), mid- to late war GMTK FSN, and unit markings. I've made some minor tweaks and upgrades since then, but an older thread is linked here.

Re: GMTK Toolboxes
Though not nearly as nice as Greg's box I was still very glad to find this box. My box is a Union made box stenciled on one end with "1 EA, TOOL SET, GEN MECH" and "41-T-3534-75" indicating it contained a General Mechanics Tool Set at some point after March 1944. It is rough with lots of rust but it still has all its feet and has the FSN, weight and cubic volume stenciled on it. There are some differences. The weight on mine is 52lbs while it is 50lbs on Greg's and mine has "R-71" stenciled on it rather than "R-82".

Phil,
VERY nice box! Love the ones with period-applied markings.
Will that prompt starting a new kit, or be a home for one you already have going?

Len,
With you east of me and Don west but who never sleeps it’s hard to find anything on the auction site . When I do find something it’s usually buy it now.
Steve,
Another kit?? Hellz no .
But moving one of my other sets in to it sounds like a good idea.

I don't know about better or worse, Phil, I'm just excited there's another one! Cousins for sure! Seriously. Same exact export scheme. The weight figure being a little different makes perfect sense as these were actual measurements for shipping/stowage calculation purposes. Looks like yours had a few more tools in it than mine when they were loaded up. (Just figures! Lol) It would be neat if we could find out what the R numbers designated.

Speaking of Union, their 1943 catalog was just scanned and uploaded to Internet Archive's International Tool Catalog Library. (If you haven't made a donation in a while, they have a large donor matching all donations 2 to 1 right now!) I don't remember seeing this before. The specs are of course well-known to us, but the construction details in Union's description on the last page are interesting and the graphics are eye candy. I also appreciated their simple explanation of the effects of WPB Limitation Order L-215, maybe the best and least misleading that I have seen anywhere other than the foreword of Cornwell No. 22.

Re: GMTK Toolboxes
Eye candy I’d say! Greg, thanks for the link and Don for posting it here. Seems appropriate that it be shown here as well.
Thanks Oz. Steve had asked if I was going to put another set together. My knee jerk response was no....but that box has to be filled with tools. Here we go again.

Re: GMTK Toolboxes
Here is a tray that a Garage Journal member posted that I hadn’t seen before. It came in a box that looked like an unmarked McAleer. It had a sticker with some Signal Corps markings.

Had some time to waste today and thought I'd set out the contents of my keeper toolbox. Certainly a box of memories!
