Pioneer tool racks for World War II period
Hey Guys,
How many differnet versions of the rack are correct for the World War II period attached to the trucks? I think I have the wrong one.
Any photos or good websites available to look at the racks?
Is there a good thread already posted on this subject on this forum ?
Thanks,

Re: Pioneer tool racks for World War II period
TYhe best WWII Pioneer Tool Rack available is the one offered by Kevin Kronlund. What are the dimensions of yours and are there any numbers stampedon the framework? Usually near the corners. The WWII version Kevin sells is 42-1/8" X 12-1/8". I can send you a pic of my WWII Friday , my camera is out of town.

Re: Pioneer tool racks for World War II period
Those are nice but are the M-Series version and are 6" shorter. They are 38-1/2" X 12" compared to WWII 42-1/8" X 12-1/8".
I have found some pics of my CCKW with the WWII Pioneer Rack that Kevin sells. I can mail them to anyone who wishes to post them.

Re: Pioneer tool racks for World War II period
Well-My pioneer tool rack is 41 1/8 X 12 1/8. Can some kind soul post a few good photos of the WW II rack? I cannot get my axe to slide into the axe pocket. It looks like it should and it will not. There is not enough clearance for the axe and the axe handle on the frame. THE pick is OK and the shovel is OK. The shovel and axe install properly on my GPW. I hope to attach the tool rack to my 1945 Chevy 1 1/2 ton cargo truck.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: Pioneer tool racks for World War II period
Hey Greg,
Thanks for the photo.
A typo on my part: My rack is correctly 42 1/8 X 12 1/8
However my tool rack does not look like your pic. I have a "pocket" for my axe. I do not have a "holder bracket " for the axe handle. And the Brace that holds the shovel handle from the underside is not like the photo.
There are no markings on my tool rack.
Thanks again.

Re: Pioneer tool racks for World War II period
I wouldn't say the one shown is the ONLY correct style for WW2. Check some actual photos. My guess is the one I posted is an early one as it has what look to be leather straps and the shovel is definitely an early type.

Re: Pioneer tool racks for World War II period
The rack Greg has posted is a pre war ealy type, a nice find for the 1/2 ton WC and any 1941 dated truck. There were several similar WWII Brackets that varied in the parts that secured the tools, some used round stock some were flat. At this late stage 70 years later, Kevin's are a good find as they are new and need no repair.
Leather Straps were an early War feature, finding them now is difficult and having them made with correct hardware is very expensive.
